[ 8:55 a.m. ET] Authorities have recovered three weapons from the scene of the shooting, federal law enforcement sources said. Investigators believe Alexis brought a shotgun into the compound and may have taken two handguns from guards, the sources said. Initial reports said Alexis used an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle during the attack, but by Tuesday, law enforcement sources with knowledge of the investigation said that was not the case. It is believed that Alexis had rented an AR-15, but returned it before Monday's shooting, the officials said. Investigators have recovered three weapons from the scene, including a shotgun that Alexis is believed to have brought into the compound. The other two weapons – handguns – the sources say, may have been taken from guards. http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2013/09/17...why/?hpt=hp_t1 |

Yesterday they reported it was an AR-14
|
So far I've seen...
he started with a shotgun, killed two guys to get their pistol and AR he started with an AR, pistol, and shotgun he started with a shotgun, killed two guys to get their pistols he started with a shotgun and two pistols he had his concealed carry revoked he had a current concealed carry he got his concealed carry after two prior gun incidents ... there's more, but those are the big ones... |
It's enough to make you wonder if the tinfoilers are right after all.

Heard an interesting comment today, about this. it was essentially, "So, NRA, MORE guns will make us safe? Who has more than the military?"

If the regular folks had weapons, he would not have gotten off as many shots and even more likely, would have not picked a spot were folks were armed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Did he or did he not have a "secret" military clearance? I had heard his clearance was just recently renewed. |
Quote:
He had 'secret' clearance. That pretty much meant he was allowed past the gate, and not much else. Hell, the janitors probably have 'secret' level clearance. |
Yen secret clearance is a dome a dozen, doesn't mean anything. I would safely very that almost every member on here who has any affiliation with the gov has at least secret
|
I had q level clearance when I was in nuclear, yey! Bet that gives you faith.

To answer the comment more specifically I'd say the clientele of your average Starbucks in the South (with their surprising policy concerning firearms) has more accessible guns than a military base in America. |

Related to my comment about Starbucks, looks like they are caving to pressure and changing their policy about guns. http://money.cnn.com/2013/09/18/news...html?hpt=hp_c2 |

cuz there.s more potential for armed/ loaded gun carriers to be there vs a military base

The Fort Hood shooting was a terrorist action, so Hasan's own base was the most "logical" target. Alexis is apparently just a nutjob, so in my complete layman's opinion, the attack would be most likely to happen in a place where he's most familiar (i.e. his workplace). In either case, there were overwhelming motivations to attack the base, relative to the motivations to attack some random Starbucks. If you can get inside the gate (all you need is military or contractor ID), you will never find a bigger, softer target than a stateside US military base. As goof2 pointed out, ALL the weapons (in many cases even personal knives) are locked away in the armory and there is no concealed carry. So any attack will be met with a severely delayed response. In that respect, people on a military base have fewer means to defend themselves against firearm attacks than civilians on the outside. It is a perfect illustration of the "if guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns" cliche. |
How about we talk about guns in this thread.

Trip this is a deal for a COMPLETE lower
http://palmettostatearmory.com/index...c-edition.html Short barrel 22/45 if you plan to suppress. I'm just waiting on my stamp :rockwoot: |
think I'm going to register that lowers as pistols, that way I can either way
picked up that 22lr American compact, next pink and flat clear fusion paint |
went and sh ot the bolt action, that gun is fun, accurate, trigger was great
friend at range had a supr. AAC bolted right up to my takedown, that's my next toy. even my 4yo took some rounds w the supr, youngest supr user EVAR! Lol |
Where are yall getting suppressors? Do I have to find someone local? I been thinking about getting one for awhile for my 10/22. Can't you get them for the 223 that will also work with the 10/22? What should I be looking for?
|
local place has trust paperwork for free when you buy from them.
otherwise you'll need an atty ( whichh is better), $300 tax stamp $200 1yr wait |
Silencershop.com NFA wait time is at/over a year, so you don't want to add to the wait by ordering something that's not in stock.
.22 will lead up a suppressor so you wan't one that is able to be taken apart for cleaning. A .22 suppressor, 7.62 suppressor and a .45 suppressor will cover you on .17, .22/.223, 7.62/9mm, .40, .45. I'm waiting on a Silencerco Sparrow. |
Quote:
Also talked to ATF back in august, they have over 46k forms to approve. They just hired 3 new examiners and 6 more are queued up to be hired. That will double their staff and should help out. It may take 2-3 months for all the examiners to be trained and ready, but once they are I think we'll see a HUGE slash in wait times |
Too bad for me I go the individual route since my sheriff will sign off on the forms. Hopefully things will stabilize soon.
|
I didn't think you could use a 22lr silencer with 223, thought you had to go the other way around 223 silencer for 22.
|
Quote:
You CAN shoot a .22lr through a .223 silencer but the silencer you'd use for a .223 (MUCH heavier/bulkier) cannot be disassembled and the .22lr round discharges a massive amount of carbon and crap that NEEDS to be cleaned after use. The GOOD .22lr silencers are not sealed so you CAN get them apart and clean them. It's best to have a dedicated .22lr silencer, and then get a 30 caliber multi for your .223 That way you can ALSO use it on a .308 or 7.62 if you choose. I breezed through his post and MISSED that confusion |
Quote:
Get a .22 can and a 7.62 can. That way you can shoot .223 and 7.62 through the 7.62 suppressor and .22LR, .22 magnum and .17 HMR through the rimfire can. Hopefully it's clearer now. |

Well ordered a threaded tacsol barrel for the 10/22, need to decide which can I want and get to a local dealer.
Really like that Sparrow that twobanger got, also considering the Spectre Anyone else got recommendations for one? |
Quote:
http://www.thompsonmachine.net/img/sup/I22/i1.jpg I only paid $275 for it! Good GAWD it's quiet! And light as HELL. Full break down for cleaning. I shot it at my dealers house (he lives in a crackerbox hood where houses are 5ft appart) in his back yard. No record, no echo, no signature. Just the sound of the slide of the pistol ejecting a round. Sounded like an airsoft pistol going off |
Quote:
Apart from that when I want it extra quiet on a rifle I will run my 223 can on the 22 long rifle. Good 22 subs out the end of my Tacl Sol AR22 with the Gemtech Halo on it sounds like a staple gun. |
Well add me to the waiting list, bought a spectre II for 300 paperwork going off next week....
|
Okay need more of you AR nuts help with my 10/22.
I am going to sell my shitty Archangel stock and go something nicer. Nordic sells this 3 piece kit that lets you use AR furniture. I need some help determining what all I need besides the basic furniture. Here is the kit: http://nordiccomp.com/retail/shop/10...or-ruger-1022/ I need to figure out all what I need for furniture. Thinking about this for stock or one of the MOE kits: http://palmettostatearmory.com/index...kit-black.html Just a cheap grip: http://palmettostatearmory.com/index...stol-grip.html Where I get confused is grips, what all do I need and whats a good cheap 4 rail one? Any idea what all other parts I would need to get it to connect it correctly? |
I've got an extra stock and A2 grip just lying around I could send you. That way all you'll need to get is the buffer tube, castle nut and yoke if needed. That they specify free float puts a kink in low cost, but the prices on their free float tubes is pretty good.
Better yet they have a complete kit: http://nordiccomp.com/retail/shop/10...dj-butt-stock/ + four of these and you have your quad rail. http://nordiccomp.com/retail/shop/ar...th-hand-guard/ |
Ruger SR22RDS - $487

|
Yeah I think I may just buy the SR-22 and sell the 10/22. Buying the SR-22 looks like it will cost about the same price as buying all the parts for the 10/22 and the SR-22 is the same nordic chassis.... That's retarded...
|
Purchased a SR22 from Buds, gonna send the tacsol barrel back for a refund since the SR22 is already threaded. Doing it this way is going to basically save me the cost of the 10/22. That's just ridiculous.
Found someone on ebay that does the rails like I want them for cheap, so that was easy. |
there are emails from SA does not even have a fix for the XDS yet, this is turning into a nightmare for them
my takedown had a threaded barrel, I will prob end up threading the bolt gun too |
Just an a coup of Arts and Crafts projects

SR22 came in today, swapped all my upgraded volquartsen parts over from the 10/22 to the SR21, waiting on rails to come in. Be a long time before I get my Spectre II unfortunately....
|
Just ordered my first auto knife, now that they are legal in Tx
have my 3rd takedown being delivered today, 2nd one for sale now got a SS one w/ threaded barrel |
Not long ago (3 weeks ago) I had a bit of a weird day. I was telling a friend how much I liked my YHM 7.62x39 AR so he called them and was told they were phasing the out. So later that day when I ran into a friend that works for YHM I asked and he confirmed, I bitched a bit and then he offered to sell me a bolt he had sent aside for future build His price was reasonable so I took it. The on the way home I stopped by a gun shop I don't usually frequent and there was a guy in his late twenties selling off a bunch of stuff to the shop (getting screwed to) but the owner of the shop didn't want and of that "Assault Rifle Junk" I waited for the guy to come out and asked if I could have a look. We drove about a mile to a rest area and I was picking through his stuff. He had a samson evo that someone had try duracoat and it was a mess and he had a YHM 7.62x39 barrel. I gave the kid a reasonable offer and he through in a FDE Magpull grip. Not an hour later I was at my local shop where I knew they had a YHM upper marked 7.62x39. So within a matter few a few hours I had almost everything I needed to complete the rifle. Here is it is on a TM 80% that I finished up. I cerakoted all the furniture OD green and finished it up with a PSA LPK .
I have ordered a Set Of YHM sights and will eventually put a real optic on it. for now though it is hard to bitch bout the little Primary Arm MicroDot. http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...psc91dfddc.jpg http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...ps967cfb01.jpg |

|

Stock up on 25 rounders? |
Quote:
My wife didn't like me outside with a tacticool gun pointed at the dog. I have about 6 BX25s, 2 butler creeks, and 6 AR22 mags. The AR22 mags suck, they jam like every 2 or 3 rounds. In process of replacing them with BX25s. Butler creeks are ok reliable, only got those because that was the only thing I could find when I first got the 10/22. |
So I had built up another 223 AR off a PSA kit (mostly cause I had some money and they had an inexpensive kit (The PTAC kit with the YHM rail) I had also been building out my YHM parts based 7.82x39 AR of the two I love the 7.62x39 and wanted a good optic for it. So I set out last evening to trade the 223 a Aimpoint and some ammo.. It didn't work out that way. The boys at the local Funshop know I have a weakness for FN so instead I came home with a Aimpoint Patrol and this FNX 45

My safe got delivered today. Got a great deal on a Superior Encore 22. I would liked to have gotten a slightly bigger one, but this one was priced right and no sales tax cause I bought it in Georgia. 1350F for 60 mins. Not a great safe but a lot better than the ones I was looking at for a similar price.
|
you're gonna outgrow it quick, mine's getting full.......
might buy a ruger 22/45 lite w/ burris fastfire tom. night., if i sell off my black threadedbarrel takedown |

I got a 36 gun fire safe for almost 50% off at Home depot. Couldn't pass it up. Been needing a safe for a long time.
Haven't made time to organize it so I just pulled everything out and stacked 70% of my ammo and all my rifles. Almost got the door stuck shut. |
Quote:
I got put on a "no more guns til you get a safe" command. I have a safe any saved money for more guns, if they don't fit in it, I am not too worried. LoL |
Yours has a better burn time. Mine is only 1400F for 30 minutes. My house better burn down quick.
Like a BOSS. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sl6yPUZl8ew |
make sure its bolted down, they can drag that bich pretty easily if it's not.
mine's really an ammo safe w/ a few guns |
Mine is 600lbs empty and was a bitch to get in the house. Its now full of surplus ammo. Its not going anywhere.
|
Quote:
WHen I build our next house I'm savaging a bank vault door (actually it's an old elementary school walk-in vault door) I have at the office warehouse and building a 12" block solid poured "room" in a corner of the basement with at LEAST 12'x12' for guns, ammo, and "other" dry storage. Think "Tremors" rec room  |
they push it over onto a bed sheet and pull it out, 100lb safe lady pulled an empty safe across the room..... 2x200lb, men, yeah it'll get out if the house
|
You cant get it out of the room on its side. Theyre fucked.
|
you got it in there, they have more determination and don't give a damm... I essentially helped my neighbor move his safe in/ out total of 3x, that basturd owes me, lol
dang 22/45 sold before I got there, had a low round count " gold " one w a burris fastfire sight for $500, lined up... uh |
If they can get into my house and not trigger the alarm or trigger the alarm and get it up the steep ass hill. I am fine replacing all my shit via insurance. LoL
If they want to get a vehicle in there to get the safe out and up the steep ass hill, they will have to crash through my fence. If people are that desperate, I am sure my safe is the least thing I will be worried about... It would be pretty damn impressive. |
