I wish it was like the UK where you can basically ride everything as long as you have the right license level and full insurance.

If we had stepped licensing like the UK, that could work.
Just think about all those new riders that want to be cool and ride a Duc, but have no idea how to handle it!
I get your complaints, and agree there should be a way to test ride bikes, but I get the dealership side of it too, lots of liability.

Guess they figure people will still buy motorcycles without riding them. And they get the added benefit of not having to pay for expensive insurance.

If you want a sportbike, or adventure... yes, you will buy it w/o test ride as that is the only option.

Only bikes I've gotten test rides on without the aid of a demo day are Triumph's, Buell's, and HD's,

Ducati North America has decided that they didn't have any value in a semi-loaded with motorcycles. So they no longer have a corporate level demo team.

My local dealer and the others that are surrounding them, are part of the corporate push to have demo bikes supplied by the dealer. For what it's worth, I have 2011 and 2012. Y'all are welcome to come down and try mine. :lol

Triumph, BMW, and Yamaha all do test rides at major dealerships on actual ADV bikes....

I have test ridden the GS 800 and 12, both triumphs, and the tenere at local dealers to me.

Can't wait for them to get a demo of the new 12 to see what I want to do with my GS.

Mostly just for going through the twisties in comfort and commuting to work which is 150 miles round trip. Especially since out here in long island - it's illegal for me to go anywhere off-road except on someones private property that I have explicit permission before hand.

For this you don't need Trip's definition of a "real" ADV bike.

Oh come on, you know the strata isn't even good in gravel. Hell you could put the same tires on a sportbike and get some high clip ons and get the same result lol...

It shouldn't be in the adv category. It's a great sport tourer though.

I am not trying to make you get the BMW, don't really care what you get. Get what you want because you have to be happy with your choice.

Just discussing bikes, because it doesn't happen here much anymore lol.
