Mine came with the two bros on it. I'm fine with that. Not gonna spend any $$ just for a different sound
|
if you are going slip on, the holeshot slip on is the best for the SV hands down.

I want to retro mod the shorty akra that they make for the r6 and gsxr

Here's the Large trunk on my SV. It holds my Shoei X11 helmet, no problem.
|
what's holding it on there?

Gravity.

How you plan on mouting it?

And here I thought you had some super-duper method for getting that thing on there :lmao: Ok, so Gas asked the right question: how do you PLAN on mounting it? :lol |
Haven't the foggiest. Might just sack up and buy a $150 rack. I'm a software engineer, I suck at hardware. :D
|
Run a couple bolts straight through the bottom and through the seat. That should keep it solid!

Krazy glue?

Red is tubular steel, black is flat steel, blue arrow indicates where you need to weld, brown is the luggage, orange are the bolts. See attachments. |
Having done a few hours of research, my opinion is this: avoid buying this case. You should buy a luggage system. Buying a bag by itself means that you need to find a rack to mount on your bike and then mount the bag to the rack. It's easier to just get a bag + rack system that is built for your bike.
If your bike/scooter already has a large rack, this bag will work great. But it's a pain for an SV because there's no good rack that will fit it. I could look into a custom rack as described above but I just want to save others the trouble of having to do the same. As a side note, anyone know anyone in Austin that will custom fab a rack as described above? |
I dunno. I mean, telling everyone to not buy it just because you didn't do research prior seems kinda one-sided. I mean, it's not that big of a deal to make something.
Here, I researched for you: http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade...tview/236/202/ Now, go price out a Givi system and tell me which you would prefer. |

Any thoughts on how this would hold up it it were to be mounted vertically along side the tail of a bike? Or is this the type of bag that should only be mounted horizontally so that the door opens up? I am still contemplating buying 2 of them to make saddlebags |

What I do recommend if you go that way, get some bags that fit them as close as possible to the size. I use Kathy Journey bags for my side cases that are made specifically to fit my cases. |

Fieldsheer crap I got for the last rally...trust me you don't want it. I mounted the tail bag to a spare seat cowl and one of the saddle bags look like crap because the stupid rain cover came off and it got soaked and crappy, so I threw it on the patio to rot!

Fine then I'll buy me some of the cortech stuff I see on newenough.

While it will be WAAAAAAAAAAAAY to oversprung for you Gina, I just scored a brand new GSXR1k rear shock from an 09 GSXR1k for 50 bucks on fleabay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Suzuk...Q5fAccessories |
Wow good find Particle! Is the gixxer shock a bit shorter than the SV shock? And if so how much do i need to compensate in the front? I can always have it resprung
|
Uggghhh I take back what I said about being too light and unskilled to feel bad suspension.....
I have finally been able to get some rides in since I have some free time, and its not gusting 40mph winds and the temps have been agreeing. I thought at 105 lbs (I think, maybe i am a couple of pounds lighter) that if I softened the rear I can get more reach to the ground. So the ex husband came and adjusted the rear preload and softened the front by 180 degrees or half a line. He mistakenly adjusted it 2 clicks stiffer than stock. So now I am on 5 instead of factory 3. Rode it around but maybe the road I took was smooth, but it felt surprisingly stable. More so than at factory settings, IMO. So my friend Jarid and I went out again. I told him to confirm what setting I was on and he did confirm that it was stiffer, not softer. So he set it on the softest setting on 1. I sat on it and did not gain any more reach the the ground. He watch me sit on it again and said I did not compress the shock at all. We rode out to the freeway and holy shit I felt like I was going to get pitched off the bike. Not only did I feel every bump but there was the ripple pogo stick effect that everyone was talking about. At our first stop, he adjusted back to factory settings and it was fine for a while. Last leg of the trip coming back on another bumpy freeway, same thing. Of course he was on a cushy dual sport BMW so he doesn't feel a thing. Can being too light actually magnify bad suspension? |
Hmm, I remember being able to easily tell the difference in height between 1 and 5 on the rear shock.
I had a 1st gen and basically you go up the ramp to make it stiffer. I would check your manual to make sure. I always left mine on 4. The 1 setting sucked because it made it too soft and vague feeling, with slow turn-in, and it would bottom out more easily. |

I suppose you could change the position of the forks in the triple clamp to compensate... You want to try the GSXR 1k shock? |
still waiting on those pics Gina ;)
if you think it might be in your head... have him adjust it one day while your not around... or adjust it but not tell you what he did... find what feels good... |
