Some cars have a fusible link. Maybe your Gixxer has one and that's what flashed.
If you don't have one, now is the time to buy a digital voltmeter at Sears or somewhere for $10. Then you can see if the battery is dead. I've seen chargers "charge" dead batteries, so I wouldn't go by that. |

You guys need to slow down here! In a rush with no thought is what got rider76 here.
Trip was on the right angle... always revert back to what it was before it got fucked up. Remove the "new" part. DO NOT try to jump or push start. If you have no power that is a waste of time and putting un-needed abuse to the bike. Things EVERY bike owner should have. Service Manual... GET IT, AND READ IT!! A multimeter... USE IT, AND USE IT OFTEN!! Take the multi meter and set it to low DC voltage. Now check your battery. All this talk about "new battery this and that" is complete BS WITHOUT checking it first!! Needs to be 12.8 or better. Now if it is good at the battery terminal then you must work your way out. You say you checked the fuses. Is there a seperate fuse for the tails and turns? On the main fuse, are you sure its not broke? This is where your multimeter comes in again. Check each fuse again with the multimeter on Ohlms. Put a multimeter terminal on each end of the fuse. Should show a closed loop. If not the fuse is no good. I'm laying my money on these steps. There is more you can go thru but this is where it will be, sense you say you have no power anywhere. Well... that unless your key switch is not switched to on or it is shot. Now granted I'm just a chopper guy... but I have probably worked on more bikes this year alone than most of you have owned. And now I have people trucking bikes to my house to work on. Got a 1981 Honda Nighthawk in the garage for a complete work over from a non roadworthy to roadworthy bike. Take it for what you want... I'm not out a bike. My rep is good enough for most, the rest FTW. |
Do what the fuck gasman says. I got my voltmeter at a yardsale for like 5 bucks, worked perfect since I was 16.
You can get one at radioshack for like 20 bucks and it can be used on all types of wirings and stuff. Other than that, my gut instinct was the battery replacement but that would just be lame if you buy a new one and that wasnt the problem. Quote:

I installed car stereo for 5 years... Circuit City, Magnolia HiFi. doesn't make you a electrical specialist... though after hearing that... I'm never gonna have best buy install any shit in my truck fi they don't teach to turn the ignition off when fuck'n with wiring! |
