Very nice Lee! I'm looking at getting an M4 this summer, also with a Magpul MOE setup. :)

It was a productive lunch hour. Love working from home. Will need a riser mount for the long range scope.

Fuckin' A right it was... but what I really want to see is what was happening downrange.
They should have had another camera running to show that and either windowed it in or tacked it on at the end.

I've got a buddy at work offering to sell me his .38 special for $200. It's a Rossi M 351 w/ 2" barrel. He's only fired 39 rounds through it and bought it brand new. Thoughts?

Rangerscott 04-13-2011 08:51 PM

$230 new for the 3"

G-Rex 04-26-2011 08:20 AM

Finished building my AR15. Since everyone will ask for specs, here they are:

DPMS lower receiver
BCM upper receiver - 16" mid length, 1/7 twist, chambered for .223 and 5.56
Ambidextrous safety since I'm left handed. :D
Magpul flip-up rear sight
Magpul stock and grip
Magpul MOE handguards

This covers the important stuff I think. I have a different trigger guard to put in, but I need to get some different punches first. I also want to toss a scope on it for some long distance shooting, but I figure I'll get proficient with the iron sights first.

Now on with the pics!

little late but......

why is he selling it after so few rounds?
can you try it out?
price doesn't seem terrible I would only be concerned with why he is selling.
you save $30 and no paperwork, not a bad thing.

if he lets you try it out run a full box of shells through it. my Taurus for the first couple boxes would "bind" up after 20 shots or so. build up in the revolver made it hard to rotate to the next shell. after a few boxes and some good cleanings, no more issues.

looks like a great little gun. Which trigger did you use? Being a Lefty myself I will probably switch my ARs over to the Ambi Safety. I don't know if you have tried them or not but my last 223 build was using a Stag Left Handed upper Receiver and Le left handed bolt, Now CMMG is producing a Ambi Upper but as of this moment I think you still have to use the Stag Left Handed Bolt if you want to go that way.

Thanks! Just using the stock mil-spec trigger right now. A buddy of mine has a Geissele (I think) trigger that's been worked over that he has offered to me for a price of course. LOL. I do like the ambi safety. I've not tried a full on left handed AR. I'm so used to conquering and overcoming the right handed world that I didn't even think about it.

He was selling because he wanted a semi-auto and wanted to use the money to go towards one. He let me borrow it and I put many rounds through it. My dad has a Colt snubby .38 special, which I also borrowed. I took both guns out at the same time to compare. While I liked the lighter trigger pull of the Colt, along with the fact it is a six shooter, instead of Rossi's five. However, the Rossi has a hammer lock and the Colt doesn't. Since I have a 6 year old, I figured it would be best to get the Rossi, because she can't unlock the hammer, even if she could find the gun.

I bought that Delta Elite on a whim more than anything. Right now accuracy isn't all that impressive, though it depends on the ammo. Blazer groupings are outrageously large but Double Tap ammo is very respectable. The gun is used, of course, and seemingly stock other than the long trigger which doesn't help me and the Briley bushing which I'm not sure if it screwed up accuracy or what. I'll get some different brands of ammo to try it out some more before switching back to a standard barrel bushing.

Corey 05-01-2011 03:49 PM

That pistol bayonet is completely absurd and ridiculous. I feel like I need one.

fnfalman 05-01-2011 05:49 PM

Those pistol bayonets are marketed by LaserLyte and supposedly made by K-Bar.

I'm thinking about buying another rail handgun so that I can get the third Rambo Knife-looking bayonet.

I'm a little behind! Looks nice Trace! One question though, did you go with the 1/7 twist on purpose? Just wondering if you wanted it to shoot the heavier bullets.

Nice rifle. There are many like it, but that one is yours.

Q: Why the 1:7 twist? Going to be competitive shooting with it?

Thanks fellas!

I went with the 1:7 twist because I want to try my hand at some long distance shooting with the AR, in the 500 yard range. I've read it *can* be done and that the 1:7 twist is more conducive for longer shots, so that's my reasoning.

Of course, now I'm thinking about how to build my next AR. :dribble:

I was hoping that was your plan Trace ;) That 1/7 twist is definitely better for the heavy bullets for long range shooting. The light bullets won't be as accurate with that much twist but will be fine for plinking.

Of course, the problem you run into with the heavier bullets is that they're also longer, which can lead to feeding issues in automatic rifles.
As I understand it, anything over 75gr is best left to bolt action rifles.

That's my understanding as well... and ARs (at least the military kind) do tend to misfeed/misfire anytime anything that isn't just "so" is introduced. So best to test out any new ammo in small portions first before buying any large quantities.

fnfalman 05-03-2011 10:39 AM

I have zero idea why people try to make the .223 round out to be something it's not. What's the point of shooting heavy bullets out of it? Velocity is so low, it's ridiculous. Want to launch a heavier bullet? Get a larger caliber.

It's an SBS. It started life as a standard Saiga 12 and was converted by Tromix. With the eight inch barrel, the magazine looks like its bigger than the gun when the stock is folded.

I have seen Mr. Rumores work he does a great job. He is light years ahead of some of a lot of the Hack and Slash artists that are out there. Congrats on a great Score hopr the form 4 clears quickly.
On a quick aside any trouble getting you CLEO to sign off?

fnfalman 05-04-2011 10:19 AM

I wish that Tromix would still convert 5.56mm AK mags to use in Valmets. There's a Valmet M76 in a local gun shop that I'd love to buy but not if I can't find mags for it.

You might try Krebs Customs I have a had a couple of his pieces throughout he year and including a 308 VEPR that her converted to accept M14 mags,, I don't know the Valmet but as I recall there was a Galil adapter ( a sleeve as recall) that accepted m16 mags and allowed them to run reliably in Galil

Kregs never did any mag conversion, but Tromix did some years back. Don't know why they stopped doing that.

The Galil mag conversion was crappy. Besides, I see no point in buying a Valmet or a Galil then use the crappy ass Mattel Toy mags.

Not to be augmentative but it was Krebs that converted the VEPR 308 I had to take M14 mags. It was a great set up and it was about 2002 or 2003. (it was done a a way of stepping around the HI Cap Magazine ban that was inplace at the time. I don't know what they have done since.
I will probably be snagging one of the VEPRs that are being imported now, with an eye adding a Ace Folder HK rear sight and a Kobra.

fnfalman 05-04-2011 04:30 PM

Sorry, I should have been more clear. Krebs never did any AK-to-valmet 5.56mm mag conversion.

I'm still waiting for his signature, but the guys at the gun store say he'll sign off on sbr, sbs, supressors, and machine guns. On a side note, it's kind of ironic that the sheriff of the most liberal county in Texas will sign off on NFA items.

I've wondered about getting a suppressor here (Austin area).
I was in Travis, but now I'm in Williamson...not sure if my chances went up or down.

I'm in Travis county (Austin). From what I've been told, the Williamson County sheriff won't sign off on NFA items. If that's true, you'd have to have a lawyer draw up a trust to bypass the CLEO signoff.

The Gun Store off of Buttercup Creek RD in Cedar Park Is a class iii dealership and the guys are really helpful and cool to deal with.

New holster for the Glock came in the mail:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-h...-13-04_456.jpg

It's a Remora Clipless Holster. It has a very grippy texture to it, allowing you to slip it in the waistband without the need for clips. I have a similar one for my S&W 637 (Sticky Hoslter) that I love. This one seems to be a little better in quality than the Sticky Holster and a little more grippy. There's a bit of kydex around the opening to make it easy to reholster. Price was quite nice as well. I've been using the Glock in a Kholster for the past few months, and while I like it quite a bit, it's a slight pain in the dick to get set up. Because of the hassle, I've been carrying the S&W more than the Glock. The clipless holsters are the way to go.

marko138 06-02-2011 02:22 PM

I'm not sure I'd be down with a clipless holster. What happens when you gotta piss or shiz or whatever?

I use a Kholster as well.

I wouldn't mind trying a clipless. If I have my shirt tucked in, then a clip over the outside of my pants is a bit of a giveaway and defeats the purpose of carrying concealed (unless I want to clip to my underwear).

I wear my holsters at roughly 4 o'clock. I haven't had it fall out when pissing at a urinal. When shitting, I have to hold the gun. A mild inconvenience, sure, but it's a breeze to put back in place, and I rarely shit in public.

I've thought about it before, but compared to the AR's simple, nearly toolless modular design, Kalashnikovs require a bit more of a workshop than I have access to.
Nice rifles there. :dthumb:

Yeah the initial tooling (Press and rivet jigs) was an investment of about 300. Once I had it it seemed a shame not to use it.

Ok, I have a question that I haven't quited figured out an answer to. Do you all carry while on your bike, and if so, how do you do it?

Same way I carry when I'm not on my bike. Same holster, same spot. No issues.

I did when I lived in FL but haven't really felt the need up here. I would carry it in the internal pocket in my jacket.

AquaPython 06-17-2011 09:07 AM

the problem with carrying in florida is that if you are speeding and carrying, it is automatically upgraded to a felony, and you will lose your permit. I am forgetting, but It might be that you have to be doing 30mph over, but that is pretty easy to do on a bike.

A.) That's a stupid law. B.) Don't speed. C.) If you do speed maybe try to keep it less than 30mph over.

I've looked at the concealed carry statutes and the speed law statutes and see no mention of that. Not saying something like that doesn't exist, but I don't see it stated in the statutes I've looked at. Not that it would be a problem. I rarely speed, and I don't exactly have a bike that's going to get me in any speed related trouble. I've been pulled over once for speeding while carrying and the officer made no mention of any kind of upgrade to felony. Hell, I didn't even get a ticket, just got told to slow down.

They had just declared the range 'live'

In plinking along on my AR

Within 10 after starting a cease fire comes over the mic

First we thought somebody had injured their hand w the slide coming back and catching their hand

Turns out somebody put a round thru their hand

UGH, fire & ambulance came

dude was shooting handguns, yes there was blood down there, no I didn't go look, some dude left, commenting he lost his stomach for shooting that day, I kept on plinking after the range was opened up again

I have to agree with Brad Pitt, that thing looks cool. What is it? I checked out the Legacy/Puma website and didn't see anything like that.

Corey 08-30-2011 10:05 PM

Nice gun. Puma 50? It almost has a ppsh-41 vibe to it. I like it quite a bit.

derf 08-30-2011 10:21 PM

Went shooting at work today to qualify for the german armed forced proficiency badge, had to shoot 5/5 from 25 yards. Then after we qualified we used the extra ammo and some zombie targets

LeeNetworX 08-31-2011 05:54 AM

Corey is right on, it's inspired by the PPSh-41. It's the Puma PPS 50 Wildcat. 22LR so I'll laugh every time I spend $2 to fill up the 50 round drum. Been wanting an inexpensive plinker for some time and this looked fun.

They also make 30 round magazines, traditional wooden stock models and a full synth stock model that loses the tactical buttstock and vertical fore grip.

LeeNetworX 09-14-2011 07:46 AM

Very nice - love the pistol grip handle with the stock. I've been playing with the idea of picking up another shotgun just for skeet shooting and joining a local club. I'd modify my Winchester 1300 strictly for home defense.
