Gun Thread
Man. I am just in the gun mood lately. I'm really really in the mood to get an AR so I'm waiting like a cheetah for the pounce on a great deal. Well I have found a great deal but they be all sold out.
So I'm rocking a Yugo SKS, Hi-point 995TS, and a S&W sigma 9mm. What ya'll got or what would ya'll like to get? http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...95TS1Large.jpg http://www.zuwharrie.com/gallery/alb...all%29%7E1.JPG http://www.zuwharrie.com/gallery/alb...28Small%29.JPG |

What model AR is that? That an Enotech? How is it?
|
I have been feeling a little light in guns lately as well. i'm thinking of either a ruger .40 cal or finally breaking down and getting a Kimber .45. not sure if it will happen yet this year though.
i have a sigma 9mm and a Taurus .357 as well as various rifles, shotguns, and a couple muzzle loaders. right now my favorite piece is in the backyard. i started building my own little shooting range. not great for range but awesome for handguns. nice sized back stop built out of old barn beams covered up with soil. 6 feet deep 6 feet high and 12 feet wide. hoping to clear the range and then lay down mulch over it for at least a solid 25 yards. we shoot out here all the time but I feel much better about it if I know there is a solid stop. behind my land is just corn field and then woods. |
this made me think of a funny sign I seen the other day, well couple actually. people always ask if the guns are for protection. I usually say no I have a dog for that.
the signs were: picture of german shephard that says " I can make it to the fenceline in 2.8 seconds, can you?" Next one: protected by a dog who has killed and will kill again, nothing in the house is worth dying for. I thought they were funny. |
My current rig:
Springfield XD 9 http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m...8/IMG_2304.jpg Next will likely be a XDm .45 and possibly another XD 9...this one of the sub compact variety. |

I just put a payment down on one at gander mountain. My best friends brother is the armory manager over there and lets us know when there are some steals in. My friend was in picking up his 92sf and his brother whipped this thing out for me. This thing was so clean it had all of us fooled, even all of the gun people thought it was new. I was like there is no way I'm going to be able to afford that, I said cheap. He just smiled and laughed. Ended up walking out with the gun, hard case, 4 mags, gun holster, mag holster, and speed loader for $380. And this thing looks like it has never been fired. Next paycheck and I'm pulling that mother out. |

I've owned HK's, Beretta's, Sig's, Colt's (though admittedly I HATE a 1911) Taurus, S&W’s, Rugers, Kel-Tec's….I mean almost all the brands. When I bought my XDm I sold the glocks and bought a subcompact and a service just to have the full line (and sizes) of the XD. I love the action, the feel, and everything about the XD’s I contemplated getting a 3.8 but can’t justify THAT one :lol It's JUST personal preference....as none of my glocks or HK's ever malfunctioned (something I CAN'T say for any of the others I listed) and they were great guns...but the XD's are just so much BETTER in every way (to me) |
So he just whipped it out huh. Did he warn you first or was it a special surprise?

You could get an ar10. For "vintage" i would say am m1 garand but theyre way over priced. Even the non-wwII ones. I see them as a collectors or just bougt to just have rifle.
The sks is a blast. There are many models (origins) of it. Ive only shot my yugo and its great. You uave to actually put some work into sighting in the irons wih an actual. Theyre not quick adjust knobbed like new rifles. So i you hear some one say they suck, well either they were lazy and didnt sight it, their barrel was worn out, or one from a bad country. I saw a dragonov today at where im having my rifle sent. It was tits. Even had the scope. Ill get some pics of it when i go pic my rifle up. |
Quote:
Don't forget they had to lower the requirements so get the 5.56 NATO round to pass. ( from passing thru both sides of a metal helmet to only having to go thru one side, for one example ) If the shit hits the fan, a M1 garand would be one of my first choices. Regular ball ammo could get you plenty of choices of current rifles  |

I'd love to get a Garand. The repro's that Springfield Armory was making for a while went for.. I forget. $1200-1400, I think? About what their base M1A's are going for now. As for SKS's, I had a Norinco back in the 90's when they were going for <$100/ea. I ended up trading it for a MAK90 (Norinco AK sporter) and now I'm wishing I hadn't. All SKS's have gone up in value and the Chinese models seem to be more sought after than the Yugos (which seem to be the most common on the importer/reseller market right now). The MAK90 is ok. I've done it up with some aftermarket furniture to drop the pretty yet not-so-functional thumbhole sporter stock. Unfortunately it will never have the accuracy potential a well massaged Simonov does. :( |
Yup. The yugo has doubled in price since i got mine back in '05.

Want a M1 Garand ( or a M1 carbine ) from the CMP? http://www.thecmp.org/ Rifle Sales M1 Garand M1 Carbine M1903 M1903A3 M1917 Enfield .22 Target, Surplus .22 Target, Commercial CMP Air Rifles Miscellaneous Rifles If you want one, get the best grade you can afford. They aren't making these anymore and they are a great shooting rifle. |

This would be my only gun that still gets me giddy every time I pull it out of the case.
http://www.cycleaddiction.com/images.../Gun/lr308.jpg Some more mods will be added this winter when racing season is over. More than anything, a nice trigger. It's one sweet shooting gun though. I took out a horsefly on the target at 100 yds with ease. :D |
Clay, that looks dead on my Les Baer. It's funny, for a custom gun, with custom components they all look the same. But I love shooting it. I might add a trigger sometime, but it shoots so well as of now so who knows, why mess with perfection.

You know how ridiculously expensive they are most places now :( I don't meet the requirements to order from them (haven't attended Appleseed or any other sanctioned event, nor am I a member of any marksmanship club or organization) Looks like the 1903's are gone now anyway, though a Garand would be nice. Maybe I'll have to make a point of fulfilling those requirements. |

Fine, I'll play too. RRA Predator Pursuit w/Leupold Mark AR 3-9x I opted for the Turner sling instead of the bipod since I usually shoot off the bags at the range. http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...8062010204.jpg |

Handguard is so fat, it barely fits most people's hands. You need to yank the mags out because of the "dust cover" sealing the mag into the mag well. Overly complicated operating mechanism. I don't know what the fuck FN is thinking of. It's a fucking cartridge gun and not a phaser. I can't understand why HK, FN, and everybody else won't recognize the fact that Kalashnikov got it right. Simpler = better. Less parts = less jams. |
