I need a new rear tire

I need a new rear tire for my gixxer 750, I have michelin pilot powers all around currently so I would like to stick with them. So where is the most inexpensive place to purchase a michelin pilot power in a 180-55 17?

Michelin guys can correct me if i'm wrong but I believe that the 2ct has the same profile as the regular pilot with harder rubber in the middle for better mileage... Jason at STG will be able to tell you better than me! He's a great guy and knows his shit very well! I can promise you that he won't steer you wrong either way!!

Homeslice 08-18-2009 11:57 PM

The 2ct is softer on the sides than the regular Pilots Powers. I don't know about the center though.

JoJoYZF 08-19-2009 12:36 AM

I want to say that the power 2ct is the same center as the power with softer sides. The road 2ct is supposed to be hard in the middle with power sides (according to what michelin told some one on my other forum).

Ah... initially I had that but went back and edited because it sounded funny to me. I was always under the impression that the Powers were plenty sticky but didn't give the greatest mileage. I now see where I was mistaken. I was thinking of the roads cts I guess.:idk: Anyway, give Jason a call tomorrow and he can give you the scoop!

Vettezilla (Impala Balko) 08-19-2009 09:00 AM

so can i put the 2ct on the back even though i have the regular pilot power in the front

marko138 08-19-2009 09:38 AM

STG consistenly has the best prices on Michelins.

Yes. One of the most popular set ups on my bike seems to be a road 2 rear and a power front. This way its still sticky on the edges but gets good mileage. The power and power 2ct even look almost identical.

What JoJoYZF said.

I had already answered that question AND referred him to an expert... The three tires are basically the same but use different rubber compounds, if I'm not mistaken.

If you still just want the Pilot Power - AMT (American Motorcycle Tire) has them for $134.83. I guessed on the shipping to your placed based on your location and they would be around $147.42 shipped... cheaper than STG unless Jason gives you a discount.

If you want the 2ct, they are approximately $163.63 shipped.

I just bought my tires from this place since they were by far the cheapest around... though I got Bridgestones.

wow good deal, i totally forgot about these guys1 Good one RD!

MAW used to be the cheapest for years, but in the last 2 years or so AMT has beat them. MAW would always match but not this year. They wanted $275 for a set of BT014's, too damn much. I got mine shipped for under $240.

Hey, why didn't you get the BT-016s? just curious...

racedoll 08-19-2009 10:48 PM

Because they don't have the front in a 65 and I don't like the thought of changing my setup.

Okay pumpkin, just wondering..... ha they carry a 60 and a 70 but not a 65... that sucks!

racedoll 08-19-2009 10:54 PM

Yeah. I wouldn't mind trying the 016 since I hear they are better than the 014's, but I'm not one for change. Unless I'm forced, which was last year and why I even have the 014's now... they discontinued the OEM's for my bike. Probably a good thing since the 014's are better.

I heard of them but their pricing wasn't that great before. MAW used to be the place and before them Chapparal was the place to go! I bought a set of Pilot Powers for $200 shipped there back in the day.

Yeah, they used to not be so cheap but as I said, in the last year or two they have been the cheapest.
