If you could have only one motorcycle for the next 10 years
What would you pick and why?
|
Busa or zx14.
I want to do some touring, I like going fast, and I could get my cornering fix with them as well. |
thats the decision i'm mulling over..........
|
I'd go with a Harley XR1200. Comfortable and still sporty enough to have a good time.
|
I love my F650GS.
|
I refuse to answer such a ridiculous question.
|
800 or 1200 GS.
|
Ducati Hypermotard. It's the ONLY bike I want right now. Very comfy, has enough power to get squidly, and easy to ride for commuting back and forth to work.

If I had to pick one it'd probably be something like a KTM 990 Supermoto. I could do trackdays, commute, it'd be comfortable enough to do some traveling but I don't know how big the tank is. I saw a guy who put a 17 front rim on a GS1150 and did pretty well at JGP on it. I like the older BMW sport/tour bikes too, I don't remember the name right now, it had underseat exhaust. |
My 1978 CB750K. its sporty when it needs to be, comfortable ALL DAY with the windshield on it, and its as sure a bet to be there for me as death and taxes. Oh and I just plain love vintage SOHC4 Hondas. they're frikkin undying machines built to last forever.

ill take an 09 zx10r. More power and talent than ill ever need and i can always add parts to push its specialties towards different types of riding
|
probably the bike i have now, does everything very well, i dont commute or do any touring so its just right for what i need it for
|
The bike I have I guess. I don't do alot of long distance riding so it works for what I use it for. For longer trips I'll just take the Z06. :idk:
|
The bike I have now (636) since it can do everything I want it to do. It wouldn't necessarily be the most comfortable but it could easily go from track to street to taking tours, etc.
Plus he's sexy as hell and I love him! :) |

I figured out the BMW I was thinking of, either the R1200S or the R1200S-based HP2 Sport: R1200S: http://www.motorcycledaily.com/041406top.jpg HP2 Sport: http://blog.crazymoto.net/wp-content..._hp2_sport.jpg |

I would keep the bike I have now but make some touring mods like a rack and some hard cases like this one below. Maybe some bar risers, heated hand grips and a bigger windshield. Other then that the bike is perfect for me.

i've had my SV for seven years, and i don't see myself replacing it any time soon... It's light, nimble, reliable, comfortable, and does everything i want it to. Only problem i can't (reasonably) overcome is tank capacity/range.
|
I considered a hyper, but it would never be my only bike, especially for not such a long lenth of time.
The seat is a dirt bike, seat. It won't be comfortable beyond short hops. The weight is way too heavy for it's class, it's not a motard, it's a naked sportbike that pretends to be a motard. For you it wouldn't be bad, but the gas issue would kill me, 100 mile range would seriously limit my riding area. And hyper riders consider that a stretch. 80 is more of a realistic number here based on the info I have seen on it. It's a fun bike, but it has a lot of negatives that limit riding time. It would have to be a trailer to where you want to ride bike for me, that's for sure. |
Probably a Busa, which is what im thinking of trading the harley for next spring.

I have had my busa for 2 years now, and I will probably have it for alot longer than 10 years.
One thing I notice about anyone who has ever had a busa before, then got rid of it for one reason or another. They all say it is the best bike they have owned, and they always want another one. |
The ducati S2R1000 or the Bimota db7 N would be nice additions to my garage.
|
Im strongly considering something like a 07-08 GSXR 1000, its faster than I ever need, capable on the track and by far the most comfortable liter bike Ive sat on. Other than that, maybe a busa if I started getting into longer touring type rides.
|
Probably the bike I have now because everything else I have sat on just doesn't fit me quite the same.

My current bike.
Its classic HD style, with all the common car ammenities like brembo brakes with abs, cd player (mp3 cd capable), am/fm, mp3 input, cruise control, keyless remote, heated seats/grips... last 2 being options I don't have installed. GAP capable http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...9/C1102802.jpg Tour capable http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...PJuly09005.jpg Camping capable http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...0892311949.jpg It can do everything on the road. |

For me it would be a SV650. Its light, easy to ride, easy to maintain slap a custom seat and windscreen on it and comfort won't be an issue. I'm small so the crappy suspension that i heard complaints about won't bother me, or nothing some cheap mods cant fix. I'm also familiar with the bike as I had an SV650s before and I still am kicking myself that I sold it.
I used to think that a dual sport was the way to go if I can only have one bike but i can't fit onto the more capable ones and i really don't like lowering bikes. But being out here where there is open roads I am limited on what I can do on the street. I guess it would depend on where I live, if I lived back in NYC then yes I would probably lean more towards a little dual sport, but since I don't, its a moot point. I really would like a monster 696 but if I can only have one bike for the next 10 years, I don't know if that would be it with all the maintenance and all. I would think after a while, and all those years it might be more hassle than its worth. Now I have never ridden a street triple but it has all that I am looking for in a bike as well. |
Gassers...can you get satellite radio on that UC?
|
My current bike but that's easy since I know where my future is going!

Hayabusa, ZX-14, or this week's dream bike, Aprilia RSV4 Factory.

It is funny how in the other thread half the people are saying to take an RC51 over a busa, but in this thread the bike mentioned most is the busa.

not really any offroading until you get about an hour or more outside the city but its full of potholes, crap roads and bumper to bumper traffic so going fast isn't really an option. 2 years ago, rush hour was from 2pm to 10pm. 4 years ago, it was from 2pm to 8pm. I don't know what it is now. I can get into manhattan from queens walking a mile to the subway and then taking the train that stops a million times faster than it would take me to drive the 10 miles on the highway. |

The reason for me is this, the busa would be a good all aroundre as my tastes change over the years.
The RC would fit my style right now. |
I'm looking for an SV650 for a long term bike right now. Cheap, reliable and does it all.
|
Assuming you have to pay insurance and maintnence (kicking the Europe bikes out). I'd probably go with the GSX-1300r. I'd really be torn with a RC51 since I'd want that V-twin grunt and sound but I think I'd rather get ridden by a rabid donkey than ride a RC51 for a long periods of time for 10 years.

That would be the bike I have now: K75S. I "know" it will still be running in 10 years time, at least if I still own it... :)
