Fast sweepers or slower tight curves

Which are your favorite or preference?

tached1000rr 11-17-2009 08:16 PM

I love tight curves and technical stuff and you got a good idea of what those look like around here this past weekend.

Rangerscott 11-17-2009 08:16 PM

I'd probably have to go with tight curves. To me its like pulling G's. You dont have to go fast to pull a lot.

askmrjesus 11-17-2009 08:22 PM

Sweepers.

The illusion of speed is more profound if you're actually going fast.

Sure did.

Me too.

tached1000rr 11-17-2009 08:29 PM

Fast is a relative term, one person's "fast" in a sweeper could be another's "fast" in something tighter.

karl_1052 11-17-2009 08:34 PM

kinks

I ride a busa. :lol

I prefer any corner that is not blind.

True.

What speeds do you see on the roads you ride, through the corners?

Well let's base this on Sundays ride, on 108 we have long sweepers, 100mph-130mph is the norm here, the tight stuff you followed me on, 50-70ish

I know, I know, both are too fast for the street

101lifts2 11-17-2009 08:51 PM

Combination of both..though the 600rr likes the tight stuff.

Tmall 11-17-2009 08:56 PM

I prefer the tight stuff. I don't even really do sweepers. Ill go balls out in a tight corner, and pussy my way through sweepers.

My logic is, going down at 60 beats going down at 120.

t-homo 11-17-2009 08:58 PM

Tight and technical.

Well, this is how I would define fast versus slow. Granted 50-70 is not slow when you are going through a turn like most down there but slow in relationship to 100-130.

was92v 11-17-2009 09:33 PM

My CBR likes the tight stuff, the Ducati likes the sweepers. I prefer the tight turns on the street. 120mph curves make me think about them too much to enjoy them on the street. Memory tells me that sweepers are quite a rush on a track, but that was a long time ago. They would probably terrify me now. Although turn 12 at RA always had my full attention but that was because I was seeing that big red clay wall in front of me most of the way through it. I think they have moved it back since then.

No Worries 11-18-2009 12:37 AM

Tight stuff of course. Sweepers would mean I'd have to be on a highway. Yuck.

dReWpY 11-18-2009 01:33 AM

I like. It tight

BobTheBiker 11-18-2009 01:38 AM

tight and technical. its the only way to go for me. sweepers are for highways. fuck that.

Fleck750 11-18-2009 05:36 AM

Sweepers.

Mr Lefty 11-18-2009 07:42 AM

both have their + and - with me... the only thing I don't like is long flat straight sections...

if I had to choose... probably sweepers. but I was never all that fast... just liked the rhythm I could get in with sweepers... places like the Gap... I couldn't get in a rhythm... but again... I was slow

CasterTroy 11-18-2009 08:37 AM

Depends on the bike I'm riding.

The motard: Deals gap type curves
The R1: Cherahola skyway (with no cops) FTW
The BMW: west virginia hiways where you can keep the cruise on 70 and damn near drag a peg

Rider 11-18-2009 08:44 AM

I like my roads like I like my women.. tight and curvy.

Trip 11-18-2009 09:11 AM

as tight as possible, i feel more natural riding fast slow. Places like the skyway always scared me because riding at that speed for that long never felt right to me.

word!

z06boy 11-18-2009 10:50 AM

I like both but have to admit...the fast sweepers are sweet for me.

CrazyKell 11-18-2009 11:26 AM

I used to like fast sweepers until I went to the track. To get any sort of thrill out of those now I need to be going faster than I'm comfortable on the street. :idk:

Tight/slower/technical - on the track!

Now I do agree with this...makes perfect sense. Flying around blind curves with all of the possible obsticles one might face on the street is what keeps me from enjoying that as much as the sweepers but on a track...totally different.

I guess it depends on what I'm riding at the time. I'd take the Skyway over the Gap if I'm riding the Duc, and vice-versa if I'm on the KTM.

ericr 11-18-2009 11:56 AM

I like anything that isn't straight. After that it depends on the road and what I'm riding.

Shannonville and Cayuga might be tight and technical, but bogie has some turns that are pretty damn fast(turn one is a kink that can be taken knee down), and Mosport is almost all sweepers.

marko138 11-18-2009 01:31 PM

Yes.

smileyman 11-18-2009 01:43 PM

Fast in the fast stuff, slow in the slow stuff. I have no preference as each has their challenges but i do like 2 things...
1. I enjoy a clear line of vision and
2. I enjoy alot of character to the corners, i.e. Different banking, weird radius, and close left right combinations. Makes me feel more like a pilot than a rider...

I'm nowhere near the skill level I'd need for Bogie or Mosport. I'm tentatively making plans to hit Calabogie late August next year, but only if I get quite a few days under my belt.

I'm with him... but being from I have no idea what tight technical roads are like if they are not on a track.

the chi 11-18-2009 02:34 PM

Tight and quick, I like the constant movement. Places with wide open sweepers (like the skyway) make me nervous. I have an ingrained fear of guardrails and mountain sides...

LeeNetworX 11-18-2009 02:36 PM

I like both, but prefer tight and technical - just more fun to me. I have a favorite pattern I like to ride that starts with mild sweepers, has a ton of tight turns going through the mountains, and then lets me blast down 400/19 from Dahlonega all the way home, with lots of sweepers.

That is because you have no girth.

Then you may like the road up Mount Evans. None of those stinking guardrails. Just don't look down the thousand-foot drop offs like the passenger in this photo is doing. Some of those bare spots in the distance are old gold mines above Idaho Springs.

I was waiting for a smart comment like this.... only took 3 pages or so.

I would have to agree, somewhat.

I hate close left right, right left combinations. I suck at them.

I didn't get to ride Mt Evens when I was out there, i needed one more day!! :(

That looks a lot like the road over Independence Pass though, and the one in Rocky Mountain National Park. Absolutely the most beautiful roads and scenery I've ever ridden through! I want to go back again, and again, and again ;)

tached1000rr 11-20-2009 06:48 PM

Legal or not I just could not bring myself to ride without a helmet

Me either.

I'm kinda attached to my head. (I've had it since I was a baby).

OMG, that makes my heart race just looking at the picture. Scary, but at the same time I'd love to cruise down it.

jtemple 11-21-2009 11:22 AM

Sweepers are all we have here. I've never ridden in anything you guys would consider tight.

I need about 90mph in the curves out here to have any fun.

Come to a rally with us sometime, you'll get MORE than enough tight turns...we've seen some INSANE cool roads together.

well I hope we get some tight stuff this year as I'll be on the DRZ... or I may just say fuck it and find the dirt.

the rally was more about the people than the ride for me...

It was this year...but remember the pancakes? *sigh* I like flying. I cant wait to have something that does both dammit!

but pancakes wasn't a rally... that was indy... but I know what you mean.

nice thing about off road... more than enough air time to be had.

I'm loving the DRZ on everything but the freeway. so much more than my RR... don't have to worry about the shitty pavement... sand, gravel, water, grass, ect... and 60 on the DRZ feels more fun than 80 or 90 on the RR on the same roads...

seriously thinking I may try a track day with it... heard Little Tally was a perfect track for the DRZ.

For your next assignment, put in for Colorado Springs. Twisty paved roads, and twisty dirt trails in the Rampart Range.

I was due to go there after Korea... but I'll do my best to avoid that place again if my assignment is the Air Force Academy. fuck that place... way to political.

I'm shooting for Mcchord in Tacoma WA... but Colorado Springs, and Denver are very high on my list.
