Refresher drills
Do you do any refresher drills after not riding for a while?
|
I always practice hard braking.
I took the bike out two days ago, it had been over a month. First thing I did was practice braking hard. |
Well since we had snow recently and the roads have not been up to par, it's been about 2 weeks since I've been on the bike, that's close to the longest I've gone without riding it. I'm hoping I can get it out on Friday or Saturday for a ride if the weather cooperates, I know the are calling for freezing rain tonight and tomorrow morning so we will see.
I try to ride enough to keep from getting rusty at all. |
First thing I do is ride a big wheelie :)
|
Gotta keep those wheelie skills sharpened :)

Really I was just playing. And I am not a good person to contribute to this thread. I barely ride street anymore and was always blessed with being comfortable even after long layoffs. But this is a great topic and I am surprised more people havent responded. |
Yesterday because of this thread, I took my bike out for a quick 10 mile ride just to be able to say I rode lol....

I feel like, despite always being instantly comfortable despite being off a bike for awhile, that I should just ride right up to the training place for the MSF course and do a few rounds of each drill. if you've been off a bike awhile, those BASIC skills are pretty important to brush up on and make sure you know em.
now if I could just do that TINY S bend they have on a real sportbike, I'd be set. |

As far as not riding on the street, I do very little of that too. It seems to be a full year before I get back to the track so I have to kind of go through some old "track" drills before getting into it. Quote:

The most time I haven't been on the bike for is about 2 weeks. Not much of a need for refresher exercises. I'd like to practice low speed maneuvers regardless, but there are only a couple places and times I can do that without getting in anyone's way.

Exactly, I do it for a few reasons. I want to make sure there are no problems with the brakes, steering bearings, or tires. And I also want to test the traction and my ability.
|
Forgot to mention, I'd prefer to test those things leisurely as opposed to having my life rely on it and being unsure of my ability.

I occasionally hit a parking lot and practice some things....need to do it more often. I wanna take the ERC this year too...been meaning to do that for a year or two now.
