Riding shoes (not boots)

I'm looking for a pair of riding shoes.

For day to day riding I don't really have anything. Sometimes the boots I feel are over kill and the only other choice is my steel toes that I wear for work, which I get tired of since I wear them daily. I WON'T wear tennis shoes.

I tried on a pair of A* one-o-one yesterday at Iron Pony but couldn't commit to them. They were the only ones in my size (38) to try so I did. Not bad but wasn't in love for $150.

What are some recommendations?

Puma Flat 2's.

Not bad. Might have to find someone that has them in my size to try. I have difficult feet for fit.

Boots.

Damn that was painful to look at in two ways

1- It was a link from SBN.
2- That foot injury has to hurt like a mofo.

Combat boots.

I have the Sidi Rose boots that I wear day to day and it has some ankle protection. They are relatively comfortable, it doesn't make you look like a crazy moto woman but its not something I want to wear walking a lot. I think they may be discontinued but maybe you can still find some left over or on Ebay?

I am thinking of getting another pair of boots as well, maybe doc martens, I would like just a bit more reach to the ground and don't wont' to clomp all around school in Sidi's. They have some on Amazon. com for as low as $50. I am just scared I am going to lose a foot if I go down...

CrazyKell 04-09-2010 08:50 PM

Pics of the Sidi's?

Not really what I'm looking for - trying to stay away from actual boots and these have a heel (which I'm sure I'd get caught on something).

Not much cheaper, but I'm in love with my Astar octane for street demos.

Those are similar to what I sold Tennessee Stud for his girl. I still want more of a shoe.

I know, it's just that you have such sexy, unbroken ankles...

Homeslice 04-11-2010 12:04 AM

Trouble with Doc Martens or any kind of steel-toe boots is that the toe box is too high from top to bottom........making it very hard to shift unless you've got a cruiser

Very few Doc's are steel toed. I've been wearing them since I've started riding..

I had a pair of steel toe Docs. I hated them.

I understand. I would think the A8 one-o-ones that I initially posted are going to protect my ankle more than my steel toe shoes because they are shoes, no high top of any kind.

They are thick in that regard but I don't have any problem shifting in mine.

Back in May I bought the Alpinestars Miglia.
http://www.alpinestars.com/shop/cate.../miglia-shoes/

I like them pretty well. Definitely not suitable for anyone with a wide foot as these run quite narrow.

Smittie61984 10-07-2011 03:39 PM

I have these and have had these for years...
http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...eet-Shoes.aspx

If you put jeans/pants over them, then they look like normal shoes. They seem to be built tough and feel as if they'd stay on in a crash and even provide some ankle protection. You can walk around them all day and I've even worn them out on the town.

I've actually added a Dr Schols insert to them and they feel even better. If you want a shoe, I'd look into the shift shoes.

EDIT: I forgot to mention the do feel kind of heavy when you grab them but I don't even notice the extra weight while wearing them.

OneSickPsycho 10-07-2011 03:55 PM

I'd totally go with something that looks like that, but I'd want about 3" more up the ankle for support...

Why do MC boots have to either look like "combat veteran" or "Apollo crewmember"? MC shoes have the right idea, but don't offer enough protection for me to plunk down that sort of scratch...

Yep, they suck. You have to dip your foot way down in order to get it under the shifter.......Plus the steel toe prevents you from feeling the shifter. And the thick sole prevents you from feeling the peg with the ball of your foot.

I never rode in the steel toe Docs but I do ride in regular Doc Martens sometimes. No issues with those.

I take it back. They are horrible and a bad idea... they are comfortable, but broken ankles are more uncomfortable.
