I never thought I'd say this, but.....
It's too fucking hot to ride. I just did a little over a hundred miles and I feel like a stewed prune.
|
I think I'm done with rides on 90+ degrees days. Feels like I'm suffocating in the helmet.
|
We are @ 100 degrees and 107 with heat index
|
I am going ride fiddies on the hill tonight. Its going to be miserable.

Pooshies

I rode today with the heat index being 104-105, headed back out later today
|
I went to the track today in this heat. I only rode the full amount of time for the very first session. All others, I left the track early. It was just too damn hot and I was getting tired quickly. But I had fun and got the Strom leaned over to full tilt. Scraped pegs a few times and the back end got a bit loose in a few turns.
Oh, and I got passed by everyone, multiple times per session. I probably should have had it in the beginner group, but it was sportbiketracktime and I don't like their beginner group. Most of you know they do a classroom session, then you go out in a group of people. I hate being led around the track in a group, so chose intermediate so I could just ride at my own pace. I made sure to look over my shoulder a lot and get out of the line to wave people by if they were coming up on me. Didn't want to hold anyone up. |
Fuck that noise. It was 104 with 24% humidity today. I had swamp ass before I got out of the garage. I barely got 100 miles in today.
|
I barely got off the couch other then to grab lunch before I went to work

(waiting on a backordered stator) I'll definitely be happier riding when the temps are in the 80's or lower again. |
"Riding" in the heat is no big deal. Its the stopping that brings the sweat.
|
Its supposed to be 72 to 90F on the mountain tomorrow..puuuuuuurfect.

Humidity ftl

Spent 6 hrs giving on the road lessons today....101 on the bike therm..I was cold......
Otb trick..... go get gnarley old sweatshirt...throw in sink full of warm water..... ..take out and lightly wring out (just so it isn't dripping, but you want it heavy. Put on leather or mesh pants, t shirt, boots. Start bike, put on wet sweatshirt, and mesh or leather jacket over top. Go riding...if leather jacket, unzip chest vents and stay cool 4-6 hrs depending on how fast you are going even in 100+days with high (today 89%) humidity. At one point when I was on the freeway, I had to partially zip chest vents as I was chilly.......... |
I rode thought a tornadoe today, a 3 hour trip took 6 hours, including one 30 minute stretch where I shut the bike off and stood in the rain because the road crews had to clear a downed tree off the highway.

I saw a guy crash recently from doing this and every rider's meeting I've ever been to has specifically warned not to do this. I find I get really tired in this kind of heat and it takes away some of the enjoyment of the ride. Thankfully the humidity has broken here. |

I, and I believe Gas and Caveman, were absolutely miserable riding Friday and Saturday because of the heat.

I'm very comfortable on the strom, and it's very easy to look over my shoulder on that bike, unlike on a sport bike. If I saw a group of people coming up behind me, I'd pull out of the line, slow down, and wave them by. Just did it out of courtesy for them. Nobody seemed to have a problem with it, including the multiple instructors that were out there. I just wanted to stay out of people's way. |

I didn't ride this past weekend but I swear I may have not worn all of my gear if I had. When it's pushing 100 degrees...that's just too hot to really enjoy the experience imho. That's one reason I have other toys/hobbies.

when it's that hot, I just squid it up and don't ride highways, and avoid traffic... not a big deal.

I'll be happy to be back in Atlanta where it is much cooler. |
