My buddy just bought a 2011 R1, on our 1st group ride with the new bike, his rear tire went flat about 30 miles into our trip, his rear did not have a 120 miles on it yet. Sucks!

Particle Man 06-19-2011 07:15 PM

Yuck

Trip 06-19-2011 08:11 PM

Patch it, go on about your day

I don't feel safe riding a plugged tire at high speed

I felt the same way until the day I had to use 4 plugs to close a hole, then rode 200 miles home, and a couple of hundred on top of that until the new tire came. I'm not sure I would put a plug on the far edges of a bike tire, but anywhere in the middle 80% yeh go for it.

Oh shit... Plug vs new tire debate in 5...4...3...

Rangerscott 06-19-2011 08:58 PM

Plug it you pussy. I plugged a rear with no problems. I even use just plain jane soft rubber material. Didn't even have the re-inforced strands in them.

Maybe if I rode on flat land all damn day in texas. I sure as fuck don't want blowout in the mountains laid over.

Trip 06-19-2011 09:18 PM

People plug tires here all the damn time, I have never seen a thread or talked to a person who had one fail. Tires very rarely fail catastrophically too. They slowly deflate and you can tell it's happening and have time to stop.

I know the stealerships and bike shops love when people bring brand new tires that can be plugged and want them tossed off the bike. The workers fight over the tires.

Then the plug shouldn't touch the road all the time pansy.

There is that one plug that's a plug and a patch. You have to remove the tire to install it from the inside though.

Gas Man 06-20-2011 09:42 AM

Yeah those are bad ass...

Rangerscott 06-23-2011 10:49 PM

Laurie don't need no air in her tires.

New tire is here and my new Sargent seat. Awesome, I have be ridding lightly on the plugged tire.

Rangerscott 06-24-2011 07:42 PM

Sargent seat FTW! Wish they would make one for the ER6N.

Particle Man 06-25-2011 07:55 AM

I love my Sargent seat. Got a used one for next to nothing (just has a small rip in one place that I need to have patched).
