Its a sad day in my garage, its time to put the old steed down seems yet another VR is on its way out and with the bike needing a bunch of other things its just not worth it to continue.

A few weeks back karen gave me the green light to get something new if it got to this point, so here we are.

I am going to start brainstorming but most of you know I will be looking for a sport tourer or something along those lines. I am looking for input and any possible deals/hookups with dealers to help my decision.

A few things I am considering.

Sprint GT- seems like a nice ride, a bit more cramped than the aprilia unless I can lower the pegs just a bit

Ninja 1000- heard good things but vibrations may be an issue, theres a kawi demo day next week in jersey so I will go there and ride that as well as the connie

Yamaha- possible the fjr or an fz1. I like the fjr but may be too big/heavy for a daily commuter which will be its primary function and I will see about the fz1 as far as touring goes.

Honda- I hate the new vfr and wont pay 17k for one, perhaps if I stumble upon an older one I would consider it. Also the NT 750 the st1300 baby brother

Moto guzzi- I may give the Norge a look, I recently heard they updated it so i amy consider it.


Any other suggestions will be taken into consideration.

Try out a 800GS or the new Triumph Tiger for shits and giggles. You may find something surprisingly sporty and have the option of hooliganism off road. Plus, they aren't bad touring get ups.

I demoed the 1050, seat hight is nice but wasnt used to the handlebars being so high. I will also give the bmw's a look.

Almost wish ths happened yesterday since I had tons of time to kill to research stuff.

I have a friend in Virginia selling a last-gen VFR if you are interested. I don't remember the miles or price, but I can get the info if you like.

The 1050 is a whole other animal from the new more dirt capable 800 tiger.

What Triumph does your boy Chris ride? You ever rode it?

the sales guy told me that, he wa sgoing to have me ride the 800 too but we ran out of time. There are zero off road options here on LI so thats not a big consideration for me.

Youre kind of on the taller side so LMK what you think about this. Goin gfrom a sport bike to the bmw which probably has a rather similar seating position to the 1050 how did yo ufeel withthe bars being tha tmuch higher and feeling youre sitting that much higher on the bike

he has the sprint ST. I iwll try to meet him this week for soem seat time too

I love the seating position of the BMW over the sportbike. It's much much more comfortable with the high bars giving you a more upright riding position. You can ride a lot longer and feel a lot less shitty after getting off the bike. I probably will never go back to a sport bike, I will probably get a motard, but that also has the high bar upright seating position.

Give the Concours 14 a go....I'm looking to get one next Spring. Comfortable touring rig and PLENTY of "sport" for the twisties. :dthumb:

I am going to try to demo that next weekend. I want to see how the size and weight are with that and the fjr.

As much as I am fighting it its seems like the 1050 may be the way to go, but i iwll give these other bikes soem seat time to get a better idea.

I'm personally eyeballing the Multistrada.. aside from my love affair with Ducati, having sat on several other sport touring/adventure bikes, it physically fits me the best - mainly in that I can actually get both the balls of my feet on the ground. Even the 800GS was just a little too tall and top-heavy for me. The bells and whistles on the Touring model are pretty nice, too... but I'm not sure what your price range is, nor what kind of features you're looking for specifically.

The new Multi is a pretty killer bike.

For me it's one of those bikes that stirs the soul.. same feeling I had when I first saw the 1098. I'm still madly in love with my flaming redhead, but she has her limitations... mainly in that after 200 miles I feel like brokeback mountain. :lol:

I'm not sure I could touch the ground on the Multi...I've never sat on one. But I'm 5'10" so I think I could probably manage.

I'm 5'6" and felt pretty comfortable on it, but then I have something like a 30" inseam.

The multi stirs something in me but its more gastro intestinal :lol:

my friend dave had the previous generation, he enjoyed riding it and was a capapble city/touring bike but to me it hit every branch of the ugly tree on the way down :lol:

The connie and FJ may be a bit too pricey right now. I iwll se ehow I like the ninja 1k and connie. If one blows me away I iwll start paperwork this weekend, otherwise I may call the triumph dealer back and see if he still has that package for the 1050.

You can find a bunch of 6th gens for sale with bags used at good prices. Id stay with an '07 and up for updated ECU and fueling programming.

Dont be too scared of mileage on these V4's. They can take a lot. Of course I can underdtand personal reasons.

I know the vfrs run forever, I know a few guys with older ones that are over 100k. I just want something that I can start low with and hit that 100k myself :)

I hear ya. There are still '08's sitting on showroom floors.

The problem with the multi is it's a worthless adv bike. It's an asphalt bike. There are much better touring asphalt bikes I would rather than the multi. Might as well get a vstrom, more reliability and cheaper.

Is the vfr offroader coming to the states?

An upright enduro is way different from what you're used to.

I'd recommend the Sprint ST. Looks good even with hard cases, good torque, and similar riding position to your old bike.

my friend has an ST I just want to sit on it to get a feel for the ergos. I rode the GT and its a bit cramped in the legs. def an issue for longish or day trips.

I haven't been on the GT, but rode a ST last year. I did a write up on it somewhere...

If you mean the bike that is the 2011 replacement for the ST, it's really the same bike with some modifications.

from what I was told theres a mod to lower the pegs on the gt so that may help me in the longer rides.

A local dealer quoted me 11.5 for a gt or a tiger 1050 SE both in silver. I was hoping there would be a price difference because I am torn, there ar epros and cons to each for me. theyre saying its good till saturday but I am sure neither bike is ready to fly off the showroom floor. Esp since I want to ride a ninja 1k too
