So its been a few months since I've been able to ride now, with the Honda being broken down and all. Maybe a few rides here and there on my buddies 636. But I've done a good job about not thinking about riding, or buying a new bike. Then I went to Indy this weekend..... and saw all these bikes and people riding all over the place, and its crept back up into my big head again. I may decide to do the smart thing and wait until late winter to buy, but I want to start planning now so I can look for super deals as it gets cold.

I've been thinking naked recently, but don't know a whole lot about the segment. I still want to stay kinda small to keep ins down, and keep me out of trouble. My preliminary thoughts for exotic and budget are...

Ducati Monster 696
Triumph Street Triple / R

Kawasaki Er-6N
Suzuki Gladius

Anybody have any personal experience with any of these bikes??? Anybody have friends with them? Any reson to avoid any of them?

I have been thinking about the XB9S a bit. I do remember jumping on one at the Cleveland show a couple years back and feeling very cramped, not sure if it was the 9 or 12, or in what trim level. The seat was way too cramped for my fat ass and I felt like my knees were up at my chest. If I want the SV, I'm going to want it in the S trim. In naked form, I am hearing that the Gladius is a much better bike than the nekkid SV.

Depends on who you ask. I like the SV better myself - there are some center of gravity differences and I found the pegs on the Gladius to be awkward for me (though others have said something different). The SV has a lot of aftermarket support as well, though the Gladius is getting there :shrug:

Don't rule out some other bikes like the Honda 599 either - I found the one I rode very comfortable (though badly in need of a brake upgrade - SS lines and some different pads would probably make a difference there). I could corner that bike like it was on freaking rails.

I don't know the budget, but what about the Honda CB1000R??

There was one in the Honda tent at GP. Sharp looking. Detuned CBR1000 motor.

Try the XB12Ss... longer frame and swinger...

I sat on that black CBR1000 in the Honda tent. I kinda want to stay off big bikes for the time being though. Save some money on ins, and I'm not quite ready for a litre bike. The FZ8 and GSR750 (if it comes to the US) would be as big as I want to go.

Cutty and OSP, this is the bike I am remembering. It may be the Sx??? :idk:

Stay away from Buell. Parts are increasingly hard to come by. I'd own another in a heartbeat if I had any confidence in their parts supply.

If you have a better pic, the model designation is under the "Lightning" emblem on the windshield.

It's also not an S, and I'm 99% sure it's not an SS. Leaving the Scg or possibly SX.

I had a Honda 599 for a while. I give it an enthusiastic "meh"

I wanted naked because I liked the look, but found out pretty quick that it was too top heavy for me. I have weak girlie arms though, so that probably made a difference. :shrug:

Plus I had financed it so I was nervous about crashing. And I bought it on a whim. I will never do either again.

So maybe I'm the wrong person to be talking about the bike itself. :lol:

Not an Sx... The Sx has dirtbike style bars - crossbar across the top... and hand guards.

Both the Shiver and Dorsoduro 750 look like fun middleweights, if Aprilia floats your boat.

But, they all look the same, the only difference is the letters after the 12.

I really want to figure it out though. It's not an s, they stopped making them long before they went to the black engines and forks. It's not an ss, the frame pucks and swingarm are different. It also has different frame geometry.

So, what's left? :lol

Did you have the same opinion of the brakes as I did?

There are regular S's with black engines and forks.

OSP and Tmall, I am almost certain that it is a Scg model. From what I remember the seat got really deep and you had it sit down "in" it versus "on" it. Exactly like the Scg picture OSP posted. Thats why I had such a problem fitting in the seat. No other pictures of that specific bike.

Not a big fan of the Dorsoduro/hypermotard look. The Shiver is nice though. Never seen one in person though.

Black engines and forks came out in either 09-10. They stopped making the S in 07 or 08.

So what do you think of it now that you've had it for awhile??? Anything you overly like or dont like??? I'm hearing the Gladius is almost all of the editor's picks between the two. But they are saying the Er is a smoother ride, is sprung for a heavier rider, and doesnt start scraping things as early as the Gladius.

The gladius is gay. Period.

I got to order a camera mount so I van make some riding vids.

I found an article last night comparing the Monster to the Glady. They basically say that the Glady is a better bike than the Monster already. And with the $2k that you are saving over the Monster, you can upgrade to some trick suspension bits and have some cash left over.

I can't get past the looks of the gaydius.


I like the ERRRRRRRRRRRR. The only two negatives are 1. the seat sucks. 2. The throttle is jerky. I've adjusted it and it's just way too jerky going slow speeds. It's not so bad the faster you go, but you're always having to concentrate on your hand movement.

Other than that, it's a fun bike. It's upright and "feels" a LOT lighter than my VFR. I can ride my VFR for a week then jump on the ERRRRRR and almost tump my self over changing lanes too fast.

I flew to get mine and paid $4k from an individual a year ago and some months. I wouldn't pay any more than that. I was on a kawi forum and it's amazing what people will pay at a dealership. A dude payed $6k'ish for the same bike at a dealer. Luckily I wasn't the only one that noticed he was an r-tard for paying that much.

There was two kickass SV's on sale on my texas forum. One was a newer model 1k with a few models, then there was a tad older 650cc model with a shit load of mods for about the same price. Both were super clean and super nice.

O if only making money was easy.

I think insurance is cheap too becuase they see a V-twin and they price them as if you had a 1000cc Boulevard

I think my buddy paid $4k for his. Bike had only a few thousand miles and was babied by an older guy who's wife made him get rid of one of his bikes (stuck to his FJR). Funny part was is the owner called my buddy last month and offered $5000 to buy it back.

That looks like a pretty good deal on the SV. Plus they are damn fun to ride!
