Road rage

was almost a victim of it on saturday. I was comming home from my shift at the WTC. Merrick rd was closed going eastbound becaus eof an accident by my house. So we turned off and went through soem side streets to get around. I had to go north a bit to find a road that went under 135. So I find one and there are tons of cars, so I start whitelining. I am comming up to a stop sign and start passing about 8 cars on the right. A guy in a saturn SUV apparently didnt like this. he tried to cut me off but I went around him rather easily, he laid on the horn and was yelling bad words at me. I get to the stop sign and as I am turning I wave back to him and go on my way. I get up to merrick rd and whiteline past 5 more cars to get to the front and go across as the light turns green. I figure I am far enough ahead that this guy wouldnt have made that light so I slow down a bit. Well I was wrong. I was about 3/4 of the way down south seamesn neck road and I think I see this guy behind me.

Now I am a little worried, I dont need this guy following me home. So instead of turning onto my block I go to the last block of the road and make that right (you guys who have been to my place should kinda know what I mean there) he makes the right as well. That block ends and you have to make another right and hes still on me. Now normaly I would just drop a gear and loose him, no way an SUV will keep up with me in soem backroads. problem is our streets are being repaved so its all packed dirt right now. So I am working my way back to fresh pavement, at one point he tries to get ahead of me but he spins his tires and I stay ahead of him. I get back past where the roadwork is and I hammer it out of there. I loose him kinda quickly so I wonder if he knows the area he will wait for me to come back.

So I go back up to merrick and ditch into soem other sidestreets down the road a ways to chill and regroup. I called karen, to tell her whats up, also looked around my topcase for anything I can use as a weapon if need be, but dont have anything. So I head back home but dont go directly home, I prety much cruised all the backstreets by my house after the road forks. When you bear right there thats the only real way in or out, there is a park I may have been able to ride through but wasnt sure. So all appears clear and I fly home and tuck the bike away.

I have replayed this scenario many times over, I still think running/loosing him was the best option and am glad I didnt lead him to my front door, as I dont need this asshole knowing where I live, but on the flipside had I stopped and confronted him I would be in the right if things got nasty since he came after me and tried taking me out. I would assume he go tmy plate # which is not good, but he cant go to the cops and report me for whitelining, esp after he tried following me home. So for now Ijust need to be more cautios around my house and def keep an eye out for him.

I usualy dont have time to stop and wave if its on the hwy or a main road, but since it was a side street and I had a stop sign I did. Sometimes on the hwy I will flip people off if they honk after I pass them.

LOL, I had some guy get mad at me this morning and chase me up my parking garage and I had no idea.

Apparently I pulled into the parking garage too fast for him and he was behind a wall so I couldn't see him and he about popped out and got hit by me. He just told me to slow down and I said ok and he went on about his day. I had my gun sitting right next to me, so I wasn't worried and this also wasn't my home.

Article from a few days ago:

http://blogs.browardpalmbeach.com/pu...icks_on_th.php

Quote:

Jason Espeland had himself a case of road rage. And he paid for it by being on the wrong end of a severe beatdown.

According to Boca police, 32-year-old Espeland's 2013 Hyundai Accent was cut off by a white Lincoln Navigator on Military Trail just before 9 a.m.

Having another vehicle drive in front of his on an open street apparently turns Espeland into a raging douchehulk, so he decided to express his displeasure by ramming the front of his Accent into the back of the Navigator over and over again at a stoplight. Because destroying your small Japanese car by slamming it into an SUV is exactly how to get a message across.

As soon as the light turned green, the ornery Espeland sped away.

Not liking his SUV smashed into, the driver of the Lincoln followed Espeland in order to write down his license plate number.

Espeland eventually turned into a parking lot. The driver of the Navigator -- whose name was not released -- parked his SUV behind the Accent in order to call the cops.

But Espeland is a tough guy who doesn't take too kindly to having his car blocked by the vehicle he apparently just purposely damaged in a fit of rage. So he got out of his car to confront the other man..

According to police, the exchange went like this:

"What was wrong with you?" the Lincoln Navigator driver asked. "I'm calling the cops."
"Nothing," Espeland responded. He then started throwing punches. Tough guy.

The Lincoln Navigator guy had no intentions of exchanging fisticuffs with Espeland. But since the punches kept coming, he decided he had no choice.

Espeland kept wildly throwing haymakers. The other guy punched him the face twice. Espeland went down like a sack of dirt. Road-rage incident over.

According to the report, Espeland then curled into a fetal position. But after a while, he decided to get up and run from the scene. That's when the other guy threw an elbow to his face, obliterating any other bright ideas Espeland might've had.

When cops arrived on the scene, Espeland was in an ambulance, while the other guy stuck around to give his statement.

Police eventually caught up with Espeland at the hospital. He then went into detail on how he got his ass handed to him.

"I lost my temper," he told them.

You did good Tommy! :rockwoot:

This is where I'd love to post some story where I'm a hero and evoked revenge on a rager....but usually when I'm the victim of a rager it's inadvertent and I can't claim any kind of victory :td: Plus...I'm the kinda person that seems to ALWAYS come up with the BEST comebacks AFTER the fact :wtfru:

Most of the time in MY case it's some dumbass just gets pissed at something I did that they didn't get the chance to do. Like merge from a stopped slow lane to the passing lane that's creeping at 2mph in a gap that HE wanted (me being behind them and taking advantage of the hole first)

Or being able to zipper merge in front of the car "in FRONT of" the guy eating his own face from impatience in the lane that's backed up for 5 miles. Then being "chased" by them after the congestion long enough for him to show me his finger and rage face.

It doesn't benefit me to egg anyone on or show any form of aggression. I'm always armed....and if you read derf's contribution on being armed you know you HAVE to walk away and not be the aggressor JIC you ever HAVE to use your weapon.

My biggest problem is the vehicles I drive :skep: Granted...I have nothing special. I may have a few cars in the driveway, but all totaled up their value doesn't exceed the cost of 1 brand new SUV. But it's the make/model that seem to extract all kinds of attention from ego-driven douschenozzles from all around.

1. F350 diesel: For some reason, every OTHER redneck in the county that subscribes to the coalrollers of america (read: they've programmed their computer or turned the fuel up on their cummins to billow black smoke) believes that I in fact am breaching their territory by driving on the roads they travel. And inherently attempt to pull a scene from The Duel to intimidate me into racing them or get out of their turf.

2. GTI: Dear GOD every honda civic that's been slammed with shitty camber and a folgers exhaust feel the need to "rev" or buzz this car like it's a wasp invading a hornets nest. This car only has mild mods to it. Intake, exhaust, and suspension. It's a $3000 car with 200 hp that gets GREAT gas mileage. I commute in it...sheesh.

3. Z4: Now granted it's the newest and nicest thing we have but still...we got it used, from a friend and paid less than you can get a mid-level Kia for. It's not something I worship, rub with a baby diaper or CLAIM is any better than anyone elses car...it's just a decent ride. Plus...I only get to drive it when my wife's outta town and doesn't know I have it :dribble: But I get the same kids that the GTI attracts PLUS the rustangs, camaro's and kids driving their parents corvettes. C'mon really? And it's non-stop. Every SINGLE time I drive it.

It's easier for my blood pressure for me to just drive the exploder to work and NOT have to go home in a cross hatch pattern like Tommy did driving the other cars :lol

I really hated/loved owning a civic. It got me great gas mileage and never broke down, but every fuckweed out there wanted to race/block me because they thought I was some douchebag ricer. Mine was completely stock, nothing ricer done to it at all. No can, no tinted windows, bland civic. Glad I got rid of it. No one gives a shit when a little Toyota Tacoma passes them on the interstate.

its always after the fact you come up with soemthing good. I prefer trying to blend inot the crowd, my GT is nothing flashy but does have the big topcase that makes it recognizable. Well that and I am always riding it. I dont need soem asshole mesing with it or trying to take me out. Thats why I try to not mess with anyone going to the ER. Plenty of low life skells that wont care and will mess up your property just becasue.

I am now considering a way to have some sort of weapon on the bike thats readily available in case of this situation. Gun laws here are prety tough so theres no way I would qualify for a concealed carry permit. I know in most cases I can out run a car, but if its not safe or I do get boxed in and I have to stop then its a different story. I know in my case had this led to an altercation I would have been in the right since this douchebag did follow me and did try to cut me off/take me out so I could honestly say at one point I did fear for my life. had there been longer/more unpaved road its hard to say if I would have kept going or stoped and confronted him, preferably in an area with a lot of people/witnesses.

pauldun170 10-23-2012 10:58 AM

Fortunately I don't have to deal with "other drivers" since I only travel to the office 3 days a week and when I do its by train (station is less than 3 miles away using side streets).

The times I do head out on the roads during peak times on weekends or during rush hour I always wonder why anyone would want to ride in that bullshit. The amount of sheer stupidity on the road is just insane.

it does save me a shitload of time vs taking the car, and believe it or not I will still take any time on the bike that I can. Fortunatley most of my commuting has me missing the rush hr nastiness.

Archren 10-23-2012 11:37 AM

Given that a lot of my commute is spent in stop and go traffic, and lane splitting is illegal here, I avoid taking the bike if I know I am going to hit rush hour. That, and during the summer it's 90 million degrees... cooking on top of the Duc on top of hot asphalt around hot cars under the hot sun for an hour... just not my idea of fun.

Edit to add: and holy crap I seem to attract every douchebag mouth breather on the road. Either it's the morons who park in the left lane going under the speed limit (and stacking up traffic behind them), or it's the road ragers who tailgate me, cut me off, or otherwise feel like they have a bone to pick with me because I ride a bright red motorcycle.

One of these days I'm going to just go track only.

That's the Z4...nothing at all done to it. But the truck and the GTI both have a modified exhaust (as does every single motorcycle I've ever owned) so I guess it's MY fault :td: How DARE I want a little throaty sound and FEEL like I'm driving instead of humming my way on the back of a prius to work. I dunno....people are stupid.

That 12 yr old GTI has less HP than most base model Hyundai's (I remember when a 5.0 mustang had a WHOPPING 225 hp stock) yet you'd think I had a neon sign in the back window "1000HP turbo ready to wax yo ass civic owners!!!"

Me too :skep: AT least..I hope that's the case, and the roads just aren't overfilled with them ALL the time. That's one of the primary reasons I went track/dirt only. I have ENOUGH to deal with when I'm in a cage and armed.

I feel your pain. Personally, I have learned to play with tailgaters. I mean, it's that much bigger than most anything out there. The big concern is retrieving the ball from the hitch from their radiator when they hit me.

Usually they can be sent the message to back off by being crop dusted.

I love my truck.

I just have an SCT set to street....no on the go select, so I don't have the whole rollin' coal effect. Just a puff between gears

I DO have the benefit of 100 extra hp though :rockwoot: but when you've got a handshaker it makes getting up to speed a little more difficult :tremble:

I don't know why you guys think the rolling coal thing does anything... I almost always have my air turned to recycle because of various worse smells like pig farms around here.

If I was on the motorcycle, it might be effective, but I could pass you like you were standing still, so it still wouldn't be an issue.

When you're billowing black smoke you're actually starving the mixture of air and overdumping massive quantities of fuel in the chamber and it's combusting only a portion of it in the chamber, sending the rest out to combine with the air in the exhaust pipe which makes the massive black clouds. You really have to have the fuel turned up to "roll coal"

I could GET that effect by wrapping a plastic bag over my air filter

I know what you are accomplishing, I am talking about using it against someone. See people do it to motorcyclists and cyclists all the time, not sure what they are trying to do against cars since a lot of us just do recirc on the A/C and it doesn't bother us.

Yep. He had it shooting from the top of the rear bumper under the tailgate almost straight up. When it was parked and he sprayed it....steady stream, but at speed, once the stream made it to the top of the tailgate the wind distorted it all over the place. It was genius. But he was an engineer afterall :rockwoot:

I'm quick to hit the washer fluid when tailgaters strike.

OneSickPsycho 10-23-2012 01:40 PM

WOW. That's awesome. Hell, even filling it with water would be enough to deter tailgating... perhaps saltwater or something that would really ugly up a shiney car but not fuck it up.

Speaking of getting over....

Left lane closes on a 4 lane hiway in 2 miles. So people stack up in the right lane. Left lane still moving sporadically with cars doing 45-60 while right lane creeps at 20. Left lane mergers are waiting till the last second then whipping into the right lane. Who's the douchebag? The right lane "blockers" for clogging it up and NOT utilizing a zipper merge or the left lane "Cheaters" waiting till the last second to merge?

Both

if right laners travel with merging space for the left laners, right laners would be traveling faster than if they were blocking.

if left laners didn't merge at the last possible second and cause a stack up and the merged into the open spots, everyone would win.

This country sucks at merging

CasterTroy 10-23-2012 03:42 PM

I didn't realize how fucked up OUR system was till I went to the UK and saw everything working (literally) like clockwork there.

EVERYONE zipper-merges and everyone left one car space in front of them. There WAS no blocking nor waiting till the last second. But then again...there's no "entitlement" feeling over there either. Shit just works there

Single lane rural thing. It usually happens when I get trapped behind a herd of Harley's.

If I was on the motorcycle, it might be effective, but I could pass you like you were standing still, so it still wouldn't be an issue.

I have to build mine up to get it to crop dust. All I know, they back off.

Though, I did do it to a pack of bicyclists this past weekend. They were blocking the entire lane, about 10 of them in their group. I pedal myself and don't understand why they feel the need to have social hour on the road. Especially a 50mph rural two lane with turns and hills. Share the road goes both ways.

I have a different definition of crop dusting than you guys.
If I crop dust in traffic...its my passengers who suffer

Yeah that's different, I don't tailgate when the person in front of me has no options. That's just dumb and asking for an accident.

Exactly.

It usually makes me coast. I mean, in the truck, if they are tailgating me it usually means that all I can see is the top of their car. I can barely see their windshield let alone the front of their car. If you get that close to me, you're asking for trouble.

I usually don't have the time to deal with an accident. So I'm not going to do something volatile like check on the brakes.

ammityville is 2 towns away from me. Interesting town now. Where that house is by the water are nice million dollar homes, go north and its a trashy ghetto now.

Just make sure you crop dust and don't fertilize!

My only guess is visability?
I personally prefer using that fuel to make power rather than smoke.
