Up On The Pegs
I was riding up Lookout Mountain this afternoon and the Monsoon clouds were building. I turned around about half way up and a young man on a 650 V-Strom pulled up next to me. He was from Alberta, Canada. I noticed his tires were like knobbies. He said they were 50/50 street and trail. I told him I have my video camera on if he wants to ride in front of me.
So he takes off down the mountain, and stands up on the pegs all the way down. I busted a gut trying to keep up with him. I still don't see how he could countersteer standing on the pegs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84Ipyodwh88 |
It's pretty easy if you got the handle bars to make it comfrotable. I ride standing up a lot after I put extensions on. Some of the 50/50s have awesome traction, just terrible asphalt life.

Took the chicken strips right off of the Pirelli MT21s on my husky when I took it through CO. Didn't even realize I was leaned that far over until the end of one of our days of riding. That was even loaded up with a week's worth of gear. I wasn't standing up on the paved roads, though.

The best riding I have ever done. You guys are spoiled! |
I made the trip up to Sturgis last week. One of the road-side photographers caught me running down Spearhead Canyon on the pegs :)

I got pulled over by a small town cop for standing on my pegs through town, stretching my legs. No ticket. Pretty sure it isn't even illegal.

Sturgis. Several of my neighbors have been there. The problem is none of them ride. Or have ever been on a motorcycle as far as I know. We went up there about 1980. Two weeks after Sturgis. It was great. Uncrowded, choice of campsites, and Custer State Park has unbelievable roads. Now would be a good time to go.

I don't get the fucking sturgis bullshit, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb... If I want to see a bunch of white trash, I can just drive around town. Definitely wouldn't want to go to South Dakota for any other reason either.

The roads were awesome. It was certainly interesting to see the whole scene. Not my thing, but it was an experience that's for sure.
I was a little disappointed at first because the group I went with really wanted to hang around town and drink. It wasn't until I took off by myself and went for a nice long ride that I really got to see what it is all about. It's about the roads. They're amazing. Really. Of course it was crowded and slow going, but it made me realize that they aren't all there just to get stupid drunk. There were many more people out riding and enjoying the scenery than there were in town drinking. Although the boobies were nice. Here's a pic of me hanging out at the Buffalo Chip . . . NSFW!!! http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=9qhcte&s=5 |

If I want the scene, there are numerous trashy bike get togethers here or a NASCAR race at Bristol or Tally. LOL |

I stayed in Spearfish and skipped most of the party. Not my thing. I now know Sturgis well enough to get around the traffic. And, I got there Saturday - bailed Wednesday morning. I love the area. Too bad all routes to get there suck HARD. |

I went to Sturgis. It's pretty awesome if you camp in the woods and just ride all day, every day. Only went into Sturgis one day for a few hours.
