The thing about tool is that they're obsessed with the occult and number theories so Danny plays really odd timed rhythms and insanely complicated syncopation.

Two things I love are the whole and justice for all album and drum solos from Tool and APC.

Another couple of bad ass drummers in the metal world are Chris Adler from Lamb of God and John Boecklin from Devildriver.

A drummer who writes lyrics! He's a younger Neil Peart (one of his influences...) And the stacking cymbals is def. Portnoy move.

I'm with you. I can listen to DMB and appreciate their brass section, their drummer, their violin guy...but I just don't like all of it together. Never got into them.
