Anyone have any good riding planned for the weekend?

Been jonesin to ride for two months now, so Scarlet and I will be spending some good quality time together this weekend (Chris is coaching, so Scarlet will keep me company).

Doing a Bears for Bears poker run kinda ride tomorrow (ABATE is putting it on; it's to get bears and stuffed toys for kids)...

Sunday, the usual group ride (hah, "usual".. it's been months since I've done a "usual" Sunday ride... I can't wait!).

Everyone ride safe!

Particle Man 11-14-2008 05:09 PM

they're predicting snow... so yeah

I'll probably get a couple hundred miles in before it flies.

Mikey 11-14-2008 05:14 PM

Yeah- actually heading out here shortly. Local group is doing a decent ride around the island, hitting some decent roads, then getting together for a BBQ. Should be a good time. ;)

DIMford 11-14-2008 05:35 PM

We'll see... my weekend is a bit packed.
Tonight drinks and billiards for a buddies b-day
Big Rivalry game tomorrow for my Alma Mater
Sunday Bond and then help one of my classmates study for a test on Monday.

speedylocksmith 11-14-2008 05:36 PM

Neeb, you're gonna get a coldfront coming through tomorrow so gear up warmly, we're gonna get the cold on Sunday. I'll be kid free next week so hopefully I'll be out almost every night on the bike somewhere.

'73 H1 Triple 11-14-2008 07:07 PM

Since the weather people are calling for thunder showers saturday, I'm hoping to get some miles in on sunday. It's supposed to be in the 40s so I'll just ride during the day :dthumb:

We are safe. We are on the opposite side of Santa Barbara. But a lot of the families at my school have not been as lucky. Many families I know (and staff members too) have been evacuated.

Ninjakel 11-14-2008 07:44 PM

Ugh! Hopefully they can contain it before it destroys anything else. :(

Thats the one thing i do not miss, fires out there.

Stay safe.

101lifts2 11-14-2008 07:52 PM

Yeah Sat and Sun...its supposed to be 86 each day. :rockwoot:

neebelung 11-15-2008 09:56 AM

Welp, I missed the bears for bears ride... it started storming over night and was raining steadily till just a few minutes ago. We're in a little clear spot, but radar shows much more headed our way, dammit.

Hoping it'll dry up this afternoon at least, and I'll just go for a solo ride up to Fernandina or something.

I might be able to get pics of "snow" on tuesday. :panic: It sounds like riding season is coming to a screeching halt.

Ninjakel 11-15-2008 12:13 PM

That bites, man. :(

Back when I was 22, I rode all year round thru the snow and all as I had to choose between a cycle or a car. Cycle won

Now that I'm "older and wiser", I'll just drive the 4wd suburban during inclimate weather.

Alright so Mother Nature was being funny (not hah ha funny) today.

Sun came out, rain went away.... weather channel reduced the chance of rain from 50% to 30%.... since it's at least 30% chance of rain EVERY day in Florida, I headed out to meet my friends. And since it was bright, sunny and 80 degrees, I did so in mesh jacket and dark visor. Hah. Bad idea.

Rain came back. With a vengeance. With it came about a 25 degree temperature drop. So, 154 miles later, I'm home, cold and wet. (still, a bad day of riding is better than a day with no riding at all  )

We had our first official snow in Denver yesterday, a tenth of an inch. Out here, that's how they measure precipitation. I rode up Lookout Mountain today, but stopped just before the upper switchbacks. At around 7,000 feet and in permanent shade of some evergreens, it looked very shiny and wet. The temp was in the lower teens yesterday night, and I didn't want to chance it being icy.

Tomorrow it's supposed to be in the 60's and Tuesday near 70. I'll be riding with my friend Neal who got a new Suzuki DL650. I only have 70 miles on my new tires, so I'll take it easy on the corners.

DreaminR6 11-16-2008 12:43 AM

I get to go to California Superbike School at Laguna Seca on Monday. Not technically the weekend, but I got the day off, so it is kind of a weekend for me. I'm so excited. :rockout:

Nice! I am jealous :)

neebelung 11-16-2008 08:40 AM

Heading out in about an hour to meet up with a few peeps for an all-day ride. I think we're heading into the Ocala Forest... :woot:

VFR Rider 11-16-2008 09:51 AM

Just so you know... you all suck. It is in the 30's here.

LeeNetworX 11-16-2008 10:46 AM

I wish. Been busy the past two weekends and now we have guests coming in for the next couple of weeks. I think my wife's friend's husband rides, though...so when they are here maybe I can get him out for a ride in the mountains.

Well while it's not THAT cold here, it is friggin cold as hell.... Holy shit.... Put on the leather and the gauntlets this morning and headed out. 20 miles to the meet spot, by which point, I couldn't feel my fingertips (I could find neither my liner for my leather jacket, nor my silk glove liners this morning). Rode a ways out, stopped for lunch, and then half of us split off and came home rather than heading farther south into the forest. Still managed some 220 miles today, but DAYUM I'm still cold!! :panic:

It was 62 here, but I still wore long johns under my leather pants. Hippo hands for warm hands and the win. Coming down Lookout Mountain, I passed a red, or should I say, scarlet 2004 R1 going up. We passed on a blind corner, but in that tenth of a second I recognized the bike and rider. No other bike like it. We both nodded as we've passed each other before. Only bad thing is he doesn't wear a helmet. And he's very fast. I tried to catch up to him going uphill once, but couldn't.

Dave 11-17-2008 12:05 AM

i thought about this thread and went out today. it was 49 and falling when i left the house. froze my balls off. fun though

t-homo 11-17-2008 04:57 AM

I decided that unless there is snow on the ground at thanksgiving, I am riding my bike the 3 hours back home and back to here. Fuck the cold, I'll bundle up with under armour cold gear at the bottom.

Awesome. Should be a blast.

Yamerhaw 11-17-2008 01:21 PM

well its 30 degrees here and supposed to snow tonight, i was hoping to ride later in the year, but not looking good

Rider 11-17-2008 01:43 PM

Since it's snowing here AND my bike it totaled, the only thing I WANT to ride is the hot little number that sits 1 row over from me. Only problem is..... I'm married so I cant. :idk:

I'm right at 101 and 680. Pretty much on Capitol Expressway. I've been all through Los Gatos, and worked at the Los Gatos Hotel doing valet for a little bit.

The Superbike School was incredible. #1 was Laguna Seca. Couldn't have been a better day. A little chilly in the morning, but warmed up nicely. Not a cloud in the sky. The track was excellent. So smooth. I started out pretty slow, just learning the bike and the track. By the end of the last track session, I was going so much faster, but not working harder. They definitely lay it out to you in the simplest terms, and you get on track instruction, and debriefing after each run. Highly recommend it. WHOOOOOO!!!!!!
