A sign of a???

Is changing speakers in your motorcycle a sign of a

Luxury bike?
Old man's bike?
Pimp bike?
Rockin bike?

Not sure...

But either way, the stock speakers weren't very clear, and got all mushy/distorted when cranked up real high.

So the boys and girls at HogTunes.com have the solution to my dilemma. They offer new front speakers, new rear speakers, lower glove box speakers, top of dash tweaters, amps... the works. All interchangeable and you can just keep adding, adding, adding, adding... All plug n play with 20yr warrenties. All specifically designed for the hogs.

For me it was just a new set of front speakers. The rears aren't on the bike anymore and I don't want to add more on so no gloves box or tweats. Let's just see what the new fronts sound like...

Out of Canada, they arrived just a few days after my order.

So time to get to work...

Get the outer fairing off and we find the stock HD speakers...

Well those suck

You can even see that they upgraded the tweater

Cause if you look at the pic of the front outer fairing gone, the spots stay. Well when you tip the fairing forward it will rub against the back of the spots. That is a pre-caution to prevent scratching of the shiny goods!!

Mr Lefty 04-15-2009 07:12 AM

Nice. Just curious... Why not just go with some good car audio speakers? :idk:

Rider 04-15-2009 08:23 AM

Speakers???? Yeah, old man bike alright.

G-Rex 04-15-2009 08:35 AM

I rented an Ultra Glide Classic a few years ago for a week and rode from Denver up to Jackson, Wyoming and Yellowstone. It had the CD player mounted in the dash and the front speakers.

I tell you what, I got used to that setup in a hurry. :D

Hope the new speakers work out well for you!

marko138 04-15-2009 09:29 AM

All of the above.

Dave 04-15-2009 09:33 AM

jeez gas. you know the next step is the peraves ecomobile/monotracer right? then you get the radio and you stay dry :lmao:

z06boy 04-15-2009 09:43 AM

Combination of luxury/old man's bike.

Just kidding...to each their own. It's just not for me. I'd rather ride a smaller bike and if I need comfort with my performance I take the Z06.

You do go first class though...I give you that.

wildchild 04-15-2009 11:30 AM

all you need now is a trailer and you'll officially have the station wagon of the cycle world. :rockout: That's what I used to call my step dad's gold wing. I mean that affectionately of course. LOL

Sixxxxer 04-15-2009 11:35 AM

Wheres the Amp/Subwoofer?? Then youll be Bumpin that Shit!

r!der 04-15-2009 11:43 AM

My guess... weather.

Car speakers don't do well when they get wet.

You could use marine speakers though.

That and car speakers aren't designed to combate all the added sounds that a MC has.

actually... any car audio speaker with a rubber surround and a poly or synthetic material for the cone would work just fine. there isn't much difference between marine and car audio these days when it comes to speakers... maybe a little more sealing on the back side. but where they're sitting in your bike... you'll be fine.

BUT... I did notice that your speakers are 2ohm... I'm thinking THAT is the reason they're so loud. check the resistance of the stock HD ones...

most Car Audio are 4ohm... some cases 8ohm (which is what home audio is) when running a lower ohm... (if I remember right... it's been 7 years since I sold and installed this shit) the speakers are gonna be louder or suck more power at the same volume...

for example take a car audio speaker that's 4ohm... hook it up in your house. it'll be louder at the same volume setting than an 8ohm home audio speaker.

looks good though.

Gas Man 04-16-2009 08:45 AM

The hd's were 2ohm as well. these are just clearer n can handle more power

plus hv u ever seen a 20yr warrenty on a speaker?

Apoc 04-16-2009 08:47 AM

Nice.

I got a blackberry for music and stuff on the road, music is nice when your riding. I rode a Street Glide last year and didnt like the stock speakers either. But I knew it could be remedied with aftermarket, like every other problem HD's have

Gas Man 04-16-2009 09:37 AM

The aftermarket for hd is INSANE!!!

Apoc 04-16-2009 09:43 AM

ive got 4 different 1000+page parts book  You dont need to tell me.

Gas Man 04-16-2009 09:44 AM

And that doesnt count the interwebz

Apoc 04-16-2009 09:51 AM

its funny, i bought a sled last winter, and coming from a HD, expected to see a ton of aftermerket. There is quite a bit, but barely anything compared to HD

Gas Man 04-16-2009 10:06 AM

Nothing compares to hd in that respect. maybe in anything. its really a great example of marketing over several generations

Apoc 04-16-2009 10:12 AM

itls also a result of using the same frame and engine configurations for 9-10 years at a time, cutting manufacturing costs because they can be fit on most bikes with that frame...

I know it is, but now they'll keep this configuration for years to come, and aftermarket companies will make copious amounts of aftermarket parts that will carry over year after year. Just like it did for years before now.

Gas Man 04-18-2009 12:05 AM

That's the thing. Companies are already completely on board with the changes. Its crazy!
