Increased street presence?

Ok, have the ghosts of joints past come back to inflict paranoia upon me or is there like a 200% increase in police presence on the roads in the last month or so?
At first I was thinking "Oh, it's just for Memorial Day weekend", but it seems like this has been going on for weeks now.
Is this a new summer campaign thing?
I don't recall them working the roads this hard last summer. :wtf:

We noticed it too this weekend. But only in Austin.

JoshuaTree 06-07-2009 12:10 PM

Sales Tax revenue for the city is down 10-15% over the last few months. The city is facing a record shortfall relative to its (bloated) budget. Combine that with Comrade Acevedo's love of totally shredding the Bill of Rights, not to mention total disregard for the intent and letter of the Texas Transportation Code, and you have your answer. :idk:

;)

Oh no.. it's been APD, county, DPS...
Half of my drive to work is outside of Austin and it definitely doesn't end at city limits.

they're doing it in jersey too. was real bad before they finalised the budget

Well we just drove through Austin going to SA and saw 5 just on the lower deck :panic: Then we didn't see anymore until we got back to Austin later that night.

Granted, one of them was a Constable that pulled some guy over for driving like a dick. It was awesome!

af1racing 06-08-2009 12:40 PM

we've seen it too...

lots more locals, counties, and DPS running radar. You cant drive to SA any more from New Braunfels without seeing at least 2-3 cop cars....one day there was 5

Hey are yall still in that obscure little shop that is down San Antonio street? My dad needs to be talked into buying a motard and he lives in NB. :D

af1racing 06-08-2009 01:16 PM

yes, we're on 699 W. San Antonio street.

not sure if I'd call it obscure, its a pretty big building that used to be the Pontiac, GMC, Buick dealer....

It's just so random that it's amongst all the houses and it's not really a place I would ever have thought a motorcycle shop would be, that's all.

And I mean obscure in a good way.

I was recently rewarded for my Mopac passing prowess.... 8mph over the limit! I surely must be going to hell for it. Or defensive driving.

What is the speed limit on Mopac? 65? I guess I should know that.

For years I thought it was 80.

Particle Man 06-08-2009 10:48 PM

It's not just there, it's in the NE too.

Since money from the state went down or away, there's been a shit-ton of cops out writing EVERYTHING.

Not about revenue generation my ass.

I was out running around in the cage at lunch today and I saw more people pulled over and PD and Sheriffs cars than I've seen in ages. And my receptionist was pulled over last night...interesting.

skiergirl 06-10-2009 09:51 AM

It started about a month ago and just keeps going apparently. I drive I35 every day and anymore I see at least 1 per day if not more. I actually saw a motorcycle cop pull a bike over for basically lane splitting yesterday morning.

Followed DPS most of the way today too, luckily he was going 80 too..:)

So if he dropped back and pulled you over, when he got to your window, would you say, "Sir, do you know how fast you were going?"

skiergirl 06-11-2009 11:44 AM

:rockout: - I might be thinking that but no, I'd never say it. I'd just go with the polite smiling and guilty look and hope to win him over with my charming personality....haha, yeah who am I kidding I'd be screwed.

I've been lucky the last 3 times I've been pulled over I just got a warning so I better watch it I'm about due for one it's been like 3-4 years.

Yup, seems to be nationwide... I posted a thread about it in the street riding section a couple months ago when i noticed cops working our little one-stoplight town three weeks running :nono:
