Casual Riding Boots With Good Protection?
I'm on the hunt for something I can wear to work (desk job). I'm having a hard time finding something that protects well (good ankle/shin protection). Any suggestions?
Putting my leathers on for a 15 minute ride to work, and then changing clothes when I get there isn't really feasible. |
Icon Field Armor boots. I've crashed mine twice and OSP crashed his and we both walked away without any damage.
http://www.rideicon.com/product_deta...y=1978&id=7889 Otherwise they offer a number of boots that are more casual but I believe would be less protective. Oh FWIW, the Field Armor boots are super comfortable IMHO. |
I already went down that road. Those were my first pair of boots. I hate the fat toebox on them. It was impossible to get my shifter adjusted enough so I could get those Frankenstein boots under it. I wore them once, and sold them on Ebay.
No doubt, they're protective. But, if I can't ride my bike on them, what's the point? :) I just found these: http://www.newenough.com/image/path/5295/Default.jpg |
You plan to wear either pair of those moon boots to work?
|
Sure. I just sit at a desk and write software all day. It's not like I'm on my feet, or having to dress up for customers.
|
Gotcha. I just assumed you meant something that looked like a normal pair of boots when you said casual. Not ankle length race boots.
|
Teknic Freestyles are comfy, but if you had trouble with the toebox on the Icons, you might have the same issue with these.
I've also got the teknic violator 2's; for a race style boot, the lower/foot part looks deceptively normal peeking out from under pants. Really I think your best bet is just wear whatever boots you love, and leave a pair of shoes at your office to change into. Only takes a moment to change shoes at work, and that way you don't have to sacrifice comfort OR protection. |

I do have a pair of Sidis. The problem is that they're designed to have the pants tucked into them.
What I was thinking about doing was getting some more kevlar/leather reinforced denim jeans to wear, and a pair of the above mentioned boots. Then, there's no clothes changing, no jeans tucked into boots, etc. I'm trying to get away from wearing my mesh jacket & regular jeans for commuting and get myself some more protection. For boots, right now I'm wearing a pair of Danner work boots. They're better than nothing. I want better: http://di1.shopping.com/images1/pi/b..._by_Danner.jpg |
Do you have good riding boots? Because before I spent $100 on casual shit I get a pair of good boots for $150-200. I don't have any problems getting my jeans over my boots. These are Red Route jeans BTW $69 From Cyclegear. Kevlar, knee armor, heavy denim, zips to jacket, etc.

Damn it! Why don't they make those Red Route jeans for women??? They look perfect.

Red Route does show they have women's armored jeans also. I may have to give cycle gear a call and see if they can get them.

I have Sidi Vertebras to wear with my leathers. There is too much room around the calves with nothing tucked into them. That's why I'm looking for alternatives.

Like so, http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...r/kdk_0689.jpg and so, http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...r/kdk_0734.jpg And the armor is $60 and would increase your protection level. You could take it and the boots off and put shoes on when you get to work. Problem solved! |
SIDI Sport Tepor. High enoug to protect some of the shins, but hug tight against the calves. Has the ankle protection cups. Looks like a pair of casual boots.

Please except my apology, Kneedraggers quit carrying them. I did look on Moto Nation but I had an Italian retard attack and was looking for "Tepor" and not "rain"... I don't know why he'd rather spend $200 on boots to wear to work rather than just wear his good boots and change at work but one thing I do know about those boots and Lorica. He's gonna have some way hot and sweaty feet by the end of his work shift!!! Don't they sell these in perforated?:idk: |
I have these.
http://www.motonation.com/store/pc/c..._black_600.jpg http://www.motonation.com/store/pc/v...idproduct=3303 They have great ankle, toe protection. High sided over the bike and no damage to the feet. |
Jeeps has a pair of Tour Master Solutions . He loves them. I have a pair of A Star very similar to his. He said he highly recommends his as I would mine. They are bith waterproof and very comfy. We even go hiking in them if we find a good trail while we're out riding. Pics to follow soon.

I usually don't buy anything from Icon but I bought a pair of Icon Accelerants and love em'. I have a pair of A* SMX 4's and wear them for longer trips or spirited runs but for casual with some decent protection...these are great !!
http://image.superstreetbike.com/f/m...rant-boots.jpg Durable leather/nylon upper 100% waterproof Internal steel shank for support Internal ankle armor Shin deflection strap Aluminum positive lock buckle Lightweight construction Anti-slip rubber compound sole Paul at NewEnough says: The Accelerant Waterproof boots have the feel of a light weight, yet well built boot. Something like what you’d expect of a paratrooper boot. I was struck by how light the boots feel compared to the way they look. With the thicker wide sole, you’d think they’d be heavy, but not so. Also I liked how stable the boots feel on my feet. The soles taper out slightly from the foot, so the sole is wide. This is a waterproof style so it’s going to work well for anyone that wants to stay dry; commuters will like that. And the boot looks good, so it will work on the street as well as on the bike. The combination of laces and ratchet closure strap allows you to get a nice customizable fit. The closure strap also helps to keep your laces out of the way so you don’t get them caught on anything. The heel and toe box areas are reinforced to provide some protection and to help the shoe retain its shape when shifting. These boots also come with a removable shoe insert that adds to their comfort and can be replaced with a new insert (or the insert of your choice) when needed to help keep your boots fresh. |

Have you considered Puma's?

I think the Sidi Sport Tepor boots are now just called Sport Rain boots. Here they are on NewEnough:
http://www.newenough.com/boots/water...cle_boots.html I do like the looks of the shorter boots, but I was leaning toward something with better shin protection. |
