Clay bar is used to take out minor little scuffs, the "sandpaper" feel to the clearcoat, and can be used to remove any foreign materials that are stuck to your paint (ie tar)

It does not replace waxing the vehicle.

When I managed the recon department at the dealership, we charged an extra $50 to claybar a vehicle being cleaned.

and yes, it takes a long damn time to do a whole vehicle
