I've done it dozens of times with no ill effects. As long as the car isn't running, it's not a big deal.
I've looked for 7th on the bikes that have a 6th. The GSXR only has 5 gears, and I've never gone looking for 6th. This island just doesn't have that kind of running room anywhere.
I've gone for -1st a couple of times too. That's not too bad. What does suck is trying to downshift to 2nd for an upcoming corner, only to find out that you were already
in second, slamming into 1st and locking th rear wheel. That's definite pucker factor.
