Yeh, it looks highly suspect to me too, if there was a major problem with that model of tire it would have piped up on other boards and b een a big thing. Since this if the first we are hearing about this, it less me to believe that the guy had some impact in the tire failure. The op stated he checks pressures religiously, even if he doesn't, it would have to be off by a whole lot to cause total tire failure, like by 20psi and sustained speed.

also the op stated he had tire issues in a previous car, this less me to believer that he had more influence than he realizes. my bet is that ambient air temperature and road temps have more to do with this than failure on michelins part. I would be that the tie was sitting in a fairly cool area, like as cool garage, them the transition from cool to hot, and the unequal expansion of the blocks vs the carcass is possibly at fault
