FZ1 problems
OK a co worker of mine has a 2002 FZ1. He put a hole in his oil cooler assembly (not the radiator looking thing) when he was changing the oil (oops).
After getting that welded, and putting everything back together when he started it, it ran for a little bit when suddenly oil came out of the coolant overflow tank, and coolant out near the carbs. Any ideas? It was the first time it has been run this season after being winterized. TIA for the help. |

That's not nearly enough info...
What was the running temp when this happened? What did he do to winterize it? Who did the oil cooler repair? Was it repaired on the bike or off? Was there any damage to the coolant rad? Are all the hoses properly attached? Did he criss cross the tubes during this? |

Another friend that happens to be a Yami freak has a Clymers.
We are thinking that the oil cooler has coolant flowing through it, and he did more than surface damage to it. I'm gone, so hopefully they can get it up and running before I get back! |

oil in coolent tank means only come from a couple of sources, none of them good.
Oil is getting onto coolent passages..either through a blown head or cylinder gasget, a blown shaft seal somewhere, or he did not have enough antifreeze over winter and there is a crack somewhere in the block, cylinder or head. The presence of coolent leaks near the intakes would lead me to opine that a cylinderhead gasket leak, crack, or warpage has occured. But then, diagnosing stuff over the internet is fraught with dangers.......... |
