easy rider
was fucking terrible. i cant believe motorcyclist talked me into it. at least i stole it so no one got any royalties. i would say at least i saw toni basil naked but that was just a novelty really. considering that most of my favorite films came out of the new hollywood era im def dissapointed. if i need a drug trip hippie romp across the country into inevitable death movie from now on im reaching for vanishing point. hopper

It's not a 'timeless classic' and requires thinking more like people were in the time it was made.
The whole anti-establishment thing isn't really something a lot of us can relate to anymore. We're more into re-establishment now.

I never did see what was so special about it either.
I found Biker Boyz to be more interesting, and would rather set my head on fire and put it out with a sledgehammer before I see that again. |

They really beat you over the head with the whole "hippies are the nicest, most generous, most accepting, most loving people in the whole wide world. Everyone else sucks and hates you" message.
I also thought it was slow. I guess when your primary demographic is going to be high you can't move the plot along too rapidly. When 15 or so minutes of a 95 minute movie is guys riding motorcycles you know they had some time to fill. I know it won awards, but I don't care. |

I haven't seen it since I was a child, but I remember Electra Glide In Blue leaving quite an impression.

I saw Easy Rider a week before I shipped off to Vietnam, and bought the soundtrack on cassette tape. I listened to it at least once a day during my tour. Hendrix, Steppenwolf, and songs written by Bob Dylan and the Band. Wow.
Haven't seen the movie since, but what an impression. Motorcycles (and women) is all we talked about in Nam. Easy Rider came out a year after the biggest and deadliest race riots in the country. The movie is all about bigotry, and that's what gets them in the end. My library has the DVD and I just put a hold on it. Thanks for reminding me of it. |
