Nexus One Review
Well as you all know, I got a Nexus One a couple weeks ago. Someone asked for a review so I waited until I got a couple weeks with it. Here's what I think so far,
1. Screen- the screen is awesome and the screen images are outstanding for a phone. When I watch videos, look at pictures or surf the web the picture is ultra sharp and very "deep". 2 Touch Control- very good on the screen but not as good on the "buttons". I'm not sure if this was intentional or not but it does get annoying at times. With the addition of multi-touch missed/wrong "buttons" are a thing of the past. 3. Processor- outstanding and very fast! Especially on WiFi, 3G/Edge not so much. On WiFi I would compare the browsing speed of this phone to last gen netbooks and laptops. Capable of running several windows at the same time without any problems. Also, I can surf the web while on a call if I want. 4. GPS- I drive between 100-200 miles every day and I have been "beta testing" this unit against my Garmin nuvi 855. It's very close. The Google Maps app works extremely well and contrary to popular belief, it continues to work even without a cell signal. In fact, I prefer it to my Garmin in some ways because it has satellite and street views which are handy or quite frankly kinda cool. Voice to text works quite well and I like it A LOT better than my Garmin's voice feature which makes me input the criteria item by item ie city, house number, street, etc one at a time. The Google app allows me to give it all at once and use the zip code instead of the city name. 5. Memory- it came with a 4G card and I upgraded to a 16G card so I'm covered. Thanks to Azoom's Pandora hack, I have at least 1,000 songs on my phone...for free! 6. Camera- mediocre at best but it takes a decent picture. I've been spoiled by my Memoir in this respect. 7. Speech to Text- works extremely well. I was pleasantly surprised as I had almost all but given up on this technology based on my previous experiences. The coolest thing is that it works in every situation that requires text, searches, browsing, gps, texting, etc. 8. Applications- tons of free ones that will keep you occupied for hours! I have four types of weather on my phone. Not to mention all the free porn for that pervert on the go. Lots and lots of music and games as well. 9. Phone Calls- funny how this isn't first huh? Call quality is very good and I'm made to understand that people on the other end can hear me very well due to the noise canceling feature. My only gripe is the lack of voice calling from my blue tooth headset, kinda sucks. The speaker phone is not the best either but I'm made to understand that the car dock has it's own speaker and will plug into the aux jack of your car stereo if you have one. 10. Accessories- I got the desk dock with my package and it is a very nice piece. When I slip my phone into it at night, it puts it in "clock mode" which basically transforms my phone into a clock radio of sorts. The dock comes with an audio cord which I ran to my stereo. The best part is that I don't have to plug anything in, it charges using contacts on the bottom of the phone. I haven't gotten the car dock yet but I'd imagine that it charges the same way and puts the phone in "car mode" which places 5 extra large car related icons on the screen. Overall, I like the device and can't find any MAJOR flaws in it. Sometimes I have to touch things twice, it's pretty slow on the Edge network, the battery life can be rather short depending on what I'm doing. Of course, if I used the damn thing only as a phone it would probably last a week! Well that's it. I hope that I've answered any questions anyone may have. The ONLY downside I have right now is adding personal ringtones can be a pain as it isn't possible to simply download and go... well, it is - but when you turn off the phone they are gone. It's only possible to go through a computer connection and load them up.
That Pandora hack is FANTASTIC isn't it?? I have a friend with the car-dock, the speaker on that is fantastic. I was very impressed with the noise canceling on the phone as well... Trackmasters is a must have app for track junkies - it costs $4 [gasp] but it does laptimes, splits, braking, and even graphs it. All using Google Earth.

Hey Azoom, where did he get the car dock? I can't seem to find it anywhere. Also, do you know if it has an extra sat antenna? |

Gas - I'll go look for it, it saves every song that plays on Pandora as an individual MP3 file. Tigger - there is only one other guy that I've seen the MP3's stick around for ring tones after turning it off. The others, mine included, had to make a Media folder on the memory card. Battery life is comparable to the iPhone.
