Question Headlights in the rain

I am always surprised to see so many people driving without their headlights on when it is pouring down rain. (I'm talking in the car) Especially the silver, gray, beige, white cars that are the same color as the road.

I don't understand what the thinking(or lack there of) is in this practice, so I wanted to see who here refuses to turn on their headlights when it is raining and WHY.

I turn mine on even if it's just a little cloudy because, I actually want people to see me.

Okay, GO!

In most states, the law requires your headlights to be on if your wipers are on.....

Yep.

I can't see any better with them on but others can see me better.

I'm always amazed at this too. Why in god's name would you not want to be more visible?

I have "auto" headlights but they don't often come on in the rain so I turn them on manually.

I don't even use my DRLs, I just leave my full headlights on all the time, the tun off when I get out of the car, and that is it.

I was just thinking about this the other day.. and it's really raining hard out there today. Back in Jersey it was just common sense to flip the switch when it's raining, but since I moved here its the complete opposite.. why?! I hate it because sometimes I'm not even aware someone is there until they're on top of me.. scares the shit out of me sometimes.

I don't know if it is an intentional decision not to turn on their headlights. I think it doesn't even occur to some people to turn on their lights until it helps their own visibility. In their mind if they can see, everyone else must be able to see them.

The people who don't turn them on in the rain are those who did it before but forgot to turn them off and came back to a car with a dead battery. They got burned once and will never do it again.
