when the mods are away, the spammers come and play
The mods and forum members had enough. There is a new forum with all the "good" people and info without the spam.
http://kawi2strokes.com/forum/index.php The new place for two stroke info ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ http://www.kawasakitriplesworldwide....wforum.php?f=2 The mods and other members are at the tail of the dragon this weekend. Just one of the spammers, friegeLex , has 76 posts so far. Maybe I'll head back mid week after they clean that shit out of there. Last edited by '73 H1 Triple; 06-11-2011 at 04:36 PM.. |

Exactly. A mod who gave up his responsiblities a month ago posted this tidbit.
For those who might not know, spamming is a profession. A spammer gets monetary reward when a posted link is clicked. Clicking their links puts money in their pockets and may cause undesired results for the guy who does the clicking. They will focus on the most utilized sites with the largest member lists. They are usually aided by automated spam programs where the spammer isn't doing anything but providing login info. The spammer neither reads or types the info in the thread. The only sure way to eliminate spammers is to provide controlled access, screening, of individual member applicant approval. That was done on this board for a while by Jeff, alone, until it proved to be too overwhelming for one person. Rather than to focus the attention toward eliminating spammer registration, moderators are, among other things, expected to remove spammer posts. Moderators are given various permissions for what they can do. Most are confined to removing posts. When a spambot gets logged on, their posts can come at several a minute. A moderator without the ability to ban a member is powerless to do anything but watch the spam appear and delete it as it continues to come. Most mods don't have permission to ban a spammer. And then, the board owner has seen fit to use the board as his own personal spam portal where mods are forbidden to remove those posts.. I'll let you all figure out where the problem lies. |

The way some of the larger sites have dealt with the SPAM issue, is to have a SPAM button. More than a preset threshold of hits to the button, and the post is automatically removed, and/or flagged for administrative review...

BUT, the mods can only delete posts, not ban/remove the offenders. Only the "choosen few" can do that. If they don't straighten their shit out, a couple other two stroke forums will pick up plenty more "spam free" posters. |
