I don't think there is really a rivalry here anymore. Microsoft has the 360 and Apple is going more mobile type stuff. Apples real natural rival is Google.

I would agree that Jobs has a lot more fanboys than Gates but Microsoft had 60% more net sales, 45% more assets, and most importantly 2.5 times the profit of Apple. Those numbers were filed before the iPad and Windows 7 but I'll bet MS gets the better end of that comparison as well. Somebody must be drinking Gates' Kool-aid because they are selling the shit out of it.

Like I said Jobs has a lot more fanboys which has certainly helped Apple trounce Microsoft anytime they have gone head to head on the consumer electronics side. That has yet to translate in to a meaningful erosion of Microsoft's dominance in the Personal Computer market though.
