First handguns

well, after jumping through a ton of hoops, in 30 days I will be legally allowed to own handguns. After going to the gunsmith today, and holding/dry firing a few guns, i've decided on one and need to make a choice on 2 others.

The definite is a SIG 1911 Platinum Elite.

But im torn between an STI GP6 and a Baby Eagle Jericho941.

Both felt great dry firing, but I couldnt use either. Any opinions on the 2?

You gotta try a Springfield XD9 or the XD40

I've not fired any of those weapons, but I'd love to try the SIG.

So what kind of hoops did you have to go through?

He's in Canada, so I am sure its different to own a gun legally there

First a firearms course, then a restricted firearms course, then a check for any violent criminal history, printing, need to join a range, then after all thats done, its a 90 day wait to get your license.

No concealed carry in Canada though, to the range and back, and you need a permit (free, from the PD)

Glock 17. Ugly and feels funny to some, but 100+% reliable. Needs no regular "oiling" - will function when other handguns won't. Feeds any type/mix of ammo without any issues whatsoever, and will outlast several SIGs and S&Ws. The best 'feeling' handgun I've ever picked up was the old, 'genuine' Browning 9mm.

If you want a quick judge of how "good" the gun will be under stress, hold the gun out, arm extended at 3 O'Clock. Loosen your grip so that you just hold onto it, look away from the gun, tense up and squeeze your grip hand as if you were trying to hold onto a rope to keep from falling. Now look down your arm at the gun and see where its pointing. For any given shooter, the best gun will be the one that your grip points straight and true 'naturally' under stress. This is usually different for every shooter.

Glock = solid, trusty, indistructable gun

Sig = cadillac of hand guns, probably one of the best firing guns you'll use.

SIG = P.O.S. that is so under-engineered that they've had MULTIPLE issues with 'duty guns' cracking frames. Georgeous designs, though...

H&K = Good function, excellent factory support. Try and find an HK4 with a full barrel kit...

Walther = Beautiful, but intollerant of lack of regular maintenance.

The best firing gun I've ever shot was a Colt Custom Shop Python. Once you get the cadence and trigger control of a DA Revolver down, they're wonderful.
