anyone ever vacation in Peru?
I'm trying to line up my honeymoon - I want to go South to somewhere exotic. Neither one of us are "lay around" kind of people, the more activity the better (a cruise is ENTIRELY out of the question - not even for free, sounds like pure hell to me). I'm not interested in Mexico, but somewhere in south america? Peru came to mind.
any other suggestions or ideas for other spots to resarch? We're not made of money - and the wedding it eating up most of the budget - but for a lifetime experience, we know it'll cost something!

We did a cruise for ours and I hate the ocean, people, and beaches. I didn't have such a bad time. You get on the right one and it's not so bad, but those aren't cheap.
Peru would be interesting. Going to Brazil and out toward the amazon would be pretty interesting as well. Mexico is a huge no for me as well. Chile and the mountainous area could be cool.

Never been to peru, but Argentina is quite the adventure. Just dont forget to keep an extra eye on your wallet
I also go to Jamaica to the Sandals resort there, I do alot of the off resort excursions, plus scuba diving 2x a day. The total cost winds up being like 3k for a week. One of these years I'm gonna go spend a week at Hedo 3. An appealing option that I might wind up doing is the North Atlantic bike trade, where you borrow a bike from someone in europe for a week and ride around. The only down side is that you have to offer your bike up use one day too.

Machu Picchu FTMFW!
Peru or Equador heard good reviews from both. BUt do remember, it's S. America.... You can also check for Brazil, Argentina, or Chile' But anyways, got a couple of good friends (okay basically like family) that did a tript o Peru. I ended up getting an Alpaca (think llama) sweater outta it, can't knock that. BTW, my best advice if your'e seriously considering it, buy a Lonely Planet guide. |

I went TDY to Lima for two and a half weeks. I recommend staying in Golf de la Cincas for the hotel, and get ready for some bus rides, as the ruins are a ways out of town. But the bars are fun, there are great spas in all the hotels and it's always warm and nice.
