Default stimulus created jobs, or not?

http://www.boston.com/business/artic..._review_finds/

"While Massachusetts recipients of federal stimulus money collectively report 12,374 jobs saved or created, a Globe review shows that number is wildly exaggerated. Organizations that received stimulus money miscounted jobs, filed erroneous figures, or claimed jobs for work that has not yet started.

The Globe’s finding is based on the federal government’s just-released accounts of stimulus spending at the end of October. It lists the nearly $4 billion in stimulus awards made to an array of Massachusetts government agencies, universities, hospitals, private businesses, and nonprofit organizations, and notes how many jobs each created or saved.

But in interviews with recipients, the Globe found that several openly acknowledged creating far fewer jobs than they have been credited for.

One of the largest reported jobs figures comes from Bridgewater State College, which is listed as using $77,181 in stimulus money for 160 full-time work-study jobs for students. But Bridgewater State spokesman Bryan Baldwin said the college made a mistake and the actual number of new jobs was “almost nothing.’’ Bridgewater has submitted a correction, but it is not yet reflected in the report.

And even IF their numbers were correct ... Mass got 4 billion dollars to save 12,375 jobs ... that's just over 320K per job ...

75,343 Bogus jobs 'created or saved' by the Stimulus
By: David Freddoso and Mark Hemingway
Washington Examiner
November 12, 2009

More than ten percent of the jobs the Obama administration has claimed were "created or saved" by the $787 billion stimulus package are doubtful or imaginary, according to reports compiled from eleven major newspapers and the Associated Press.

Based only on our analysis of stimulus media coverage in the last two weeks, The Examiner has created this interactive map to document exaggerated stimulus claims. The map, which will be updated as new revelations appear, currently reflects an exaggeration by the Obama administration of about 75,000 jobs, out of the 640,000 jobs supposedly "created or saved."

------------------------------------------------------

"The Greenville Housing Authority “saved or created” 118 jobs by use of federal stimulus money, according to the Obama administration. Not bad for an agency that has 35 employees."

A Head Start group called Community Action for Improvement "reported 77 jobs based on raises it gave its employees with the money."

United migrant Opportunity Services claimed to have created 113 jobs with just $18,000.

A school district reported saving 665 jobs, even though it only employs about 600 people.

The district reported saving 166 jobs, but the superintendant of schools says the number should be zero.
