Unemployment question
If you are terminated for cause, what may those causes be that would make you not eligible for unemployment?
And no I have not been terminated. |

i check their website but it didn't specify. Seems like you can still get unemployment if its production related. i would imagine the obvious like violence and harrassment, but what about attendance or lateness?
For example, at our company, they allow you to have 48 hours of sick time, but they point you for it everytime you take one. If you exceed 10 pts, you are let go. Now sunday-friday, its 1 pt for everytime you are out sick. if you call out on a Saturday, then its 5 points! (now i have no idea how its legal to penalize you if you use paid sick time that is due to you) If you come in late, its a half point. So its really easy to point out. Now if they like you (or you are sleeping with management), they may let the points slip through the cracks, but if they don't like you, then they go through all the times you were late, whether is 1 minute or 1 hour and use that as a basis to terminate you, even though NV is a "At Will" state. |

Ouch, gotta love the joys of on the job drama.
Best bet would be to pick up the phone and call someone at the unemployment office. That way you can get a sure fire answer versus making any assumptions during these very tough times. |

You have no idea!
Latest news, one of our managers (a woman in her 40's) has a record of sexually harrassing the younger men in the company. They fired her while she was on vacation. Apparently, during the weekend before her vacation, she went to a bachlorette party for one of the girls (20 years old) at work. Most of the young kids at work were there including ex employees. She had too much to drink and then went baring her boobs everywhere and then gave 2 of the guys that were brothers (also young 20's) head in the girl's parents bedroom. Parents found out, they called corporate and she got canned! (I dont' think she will get approved for unemployment benefits though) My workplace is really unprofessional but its really entertaining. Its better than a soap opera! |

You folks have weird unemployment benefits laws. "Must be found to be out of work through no fault of their own." Were the two guys employees? If they fired her for actions while away from work, and unrelated to the job (as in these were not subordinates), then she'll likely get benefits.

Lets see, I think I will call my friends company up and tell them that my friend was having sex at a private club....and I should expect the bosses at my friends company to just terminate his/her employment based on what I have just said? Be realistic.

I agree with you, whatever happens off the clock is off the clock. But now that unemployment is high, employers can now be more selective of the type of people they employ. When you work for someone, you represent even on weekends. Where she went wrong is that she gave head to men who have a connection to her company. If she had a threesome with two strangers from a bar, this would have never gotten back to the company. Happy hours and fraternizing with coworkers can be a dangerous game! |
