Any golfers here?
I took up the sport last fall, im not good by anymeans, i played about 15 rounds on a fall membership and shot a best of 98. I just ordered new clubs and cant wait for the season to start. Golf in the morning, riding in the afternoon.
So, anyone? how good are you? How often do you play>? |

I golf. I only made it out once or twice last year. I'm ok but I'm not consistent. I picked up new clubs the year before so I'm still feeling them out. I also picked up an new putter last year. My first day with that was ugly.
I hope to play more this year. James

I'm a pretty good golfer. shoot in the low 80's on a good day, and usually hit a few birdies in a round. I dont get out more than a few rounds a year, mostly cause i have nobody to play with, but i used to go shoot 9 holes every day after school/work got out.
this time of year always makes me want to hit the range, 'specially w/ the masters on. |

I'm a terrible golfer. I do have a set of clubs which were left to me as part of an estate. My average game is closer to 115.
What I really enjoy about golf is drinking the beer and driving the little cart all liquored up.

I have played since I was around 5 or so... I would only play 1 or two times a year until I got older. Bought my 1st set of clubs at 13 with my own money. Since my 20's I have usually played every Sunday morning with my Dad. It's our "bonding" time I guess. A time that he and I can go out vent, have a good time, relax, and just get a chance to get to know each other. I am about a 17 handicap... (didn't say I was good) and I have baseball to thank for that.
Sunday usually goes like this: 5:30a Wake up 6:30a At course 7:00a - 7:30 Tee off 12:00p Home/Lunch 3:00p Usually on a ride |

Anyway, I guess my average over 18 holes is about 104. I bought a membership this year at Gowan Brae Golf and Country club. Hoping to get that down to the low 90's by the end of the year. My short game BLOWS. But im pretty good getting out of the sand. I've got a horrible slice off the tee sometimes too hehe, I like that. |

big tips that will always help the newbies.
Looosen your grip. i dont care, just do it, and relax your forearms. This goes especially for drives. if you do this and slow your tempo down a notch you'll see farther ball flight and straighter shots. if you're slicing try setting up and then moving your back foot back an inch or so and watch as u hit a natural draw. Coil. You get 99% of your power from your hips and shoulder rotation. your arms are just along for the ride. Most people only go about 80% on their backswing and still use 100% on their downswing. It will feel unnatural at first to coil all the way up, like you're loosing control, but you'll come back down with muscle memory and hit the shot without chunking it, with practice. Keep your tempo at 3:1. on your backswing cound "one, two, three" and at three bring your hips forward, followed by your shoulders. on your downswing thing just "one"... a 3 to 1 ratio has been proven to have the best effect on the golf swing. the lower the scores the more consistant the ratio. a lot of people have a slow backswing only to follow with a furious downswing (watch charles barkley swing a golf club), and this messes up their rythem. Never compensate, and never hessitate. |
