Eye Surgery
Going in tomorrow at 0700 for either LASIK or PRK. Has anyone here ever done either? I'm a little nervous and looking for advice or words of encouragement.

Had lasik 7 months ago, best thing I can say I've ever done.
I went from not being able to see the alarm clock on the night stand (like 20/450 in one eye and 20/350 or so in the other) to being a little better than 20/20 in both. Had it done Friday morning, and was back to work on Monday. I drove myself to the doctor saturday morning for a checkup, something I couldn't of done without the help of contacts or glasses. Good luck It took me about 5 years to finally work up the nerve to get it. I was scared to death. My brother and several friends had to done with 0 problems, but I still couldn't work up the nerve. I was finally running out of contacts, and needed to make another appointment to get a new prescription, and just bit the bullet and made the appointment. After it was done, I regret not having it done sooner. Last edited by Hydrant; 09-15-2010 at 10:38 PM.. |

I had it done, piece of cake and worth every penny of it! I was 20/400 in both eyes and couldn't really function without glasses or contacts. Just follow the doctors orders for after and it'll go smooth.
I did do some peeking on my way home just to see, and could read road signs at 30-40yrds when before I'd barely even see a sign. It'll be worth it, trust me! |

Everyone I know has had a wonderful experience with it. I worked with one guy a few years back who had to have the surgury a second time because his vision got worse after the first surgury, but that was in the early days of lasik, they've gotten much better since then

Thanks for the encouraging words, guys.
How did you fare with dryness and whatnot in the months following? Any issues with riding?

I had it a few years ago, I didn't ride for a while at night... during the day it isn't a big deal.

I never really had any problems with dryness. Every now and then I would start to notice it, but I would just carry some Visine around with me, and tried to avoid getting a direct stream of wind to the eyes. Nothing that I would say was uncomfortable. As far as halos at night, for the two weeks they were bad but I could still manage, and after that I would get a small halo around lights, but they were hardly noticeable.

but it goes away after about 30 seconds... but it's a hell of a way to wake up I'll tell ya! oh and it's slowly decreasing in both frequency and intensity as I get further away from the day I had my surgery... so hopefully it'll stop all together.... SOON!!!! |

SA? Not usually. I only ride on the street now with BMW, the rest of the time I'm at the track on San Marcos.
