I like the idea of keeping it stock to preserve the catalytic converter. The down side is that a stock exhaust makes valvetrain noise more noticeable.

I find the sound level of most SS bikes today stock is fine. Some of the sport tour bikes etc could use a bit more volume. My buddies Bandit 1250 you can't even hear running! |

The stock pipe is too long on the front side to look nice without the fairing. The ss is about 4 inches shorter over all, 2 in the front and 2 in the rear. BUT! It seems to be a little more prone to wear. The front part is all dinged up from rocks and I've rattled the screws out of it several times even with loctite. And the kicker is the elbow coming into the muffler "floats" and is mounted to the header with the stock torcon clamp. I didn't know, but those clamps stretch to apply the tq to the header. So, I reused it and the elbow rattled around for half of the season last year and wore out the opening of the muffler a little bit. A new torcon and some RTV high temp exhaust silicon fixed the problem. However, if/when EBR comes out with a new race pipe I'm going to splurge on that and the race ecm for longevity reasons.
I like the way your pipes look. Mine won't shine up as well. They went to a lower grade steel apparently. I polish them a couple times a summer and they look like brushed steel most times with a slight shine. |

What do you use to polish? I wet sanded with 1000 grit then used Mothers Billet polish. But I've heard the newer headers don't polish as nice.
