Its a preference thing. I've never said they CANT be trained, however 98% of them are ill trained, ill mannered and unmanageable. Nor did I say it was the dogs fault. It falls on the owner to take care of training the animal, and most are too lazy to put in the time and effort it takes to make them a perfectly trained animal.
Labs are typically a very attention needy animal, people pick them up because they are the "perfect american family pet" and let them go nuts. |

Pretty much what I meant. Labs need order and training and people just dont do it. Not knocking those who havent trained their labs, but dont tell me how awesome he is when I am climbing a tree so the SOB will stop jumping on me.

You come off like non-trained dogs is only a problem with Labs.

Walk into any vet in your local area, theres bound to be at least one lab in there if not mulitples, pulling at the leash, lunging at other people and pets, etc etc... |

Found this and it has my opinion on labs. I used to work as a vet tech and they were often like big overgrown puppies that could not settle down. I know labs are GREAT dogs in the right environment. I think they have become so popular that people do not understand the excercise requirements and then can understand why they are eating the house. Educated pet owners make good pet owners.

Labs like to be service dogs, if they are worked that way they will be very happy and will act as trained. My friend's dogs were worked by retreiving golf balls and placing them perfectly on the tee after his dad hit them. They knew if they didn't place them perfectly on the tee they would get in trouble and you could tell they wanted to do it perfect. It was really cool to watch and we knew not to mess with the dogs during this time he spent with them. They would take turns fetching and would not go until commanded and only the one commanded would go. Very intelligent dogs.
