In the United States, it's easy to say that it's the cost of secondary care or chronic illnesses due to relatively long lifespans. It's even easier to say that the quality of care thanks to high tech equipment...

Only thing is other countries have the same high tech equipment, the same if not longer lives and also the same chronic issues.

However they do it at less impact to GDP.

Drug companies charge us more than other marketss. Insurance companies charge us more.

Why?

Because we can pay.

It's not that we receive superior care. MRI equipment here is no superior to MRI equipment in Japan or Germany. Doctors have the same level of skill.
It's not like we have any advantage in scheduling appointments or whatever.

We have an entrepreneurial health system that is garbage and negatively impacting our economy.

Since smoking related disease such as heart disease, cancer and even just general respiratory nonsense cost a lot of money to treat...smokers are a drain on the economy and are a good excuse for Insurance companies to put pressure on premiums.
