Probably. I know you can get them at the bank. I also read somewhere that if you buy one at Wal Mart there is a fee and not one if you go to the bank. *Of course it's all true, I read it on the internet!!*

I've bought them at the store before, but you do have like a 4 or 5 dollar charge just to buy it. I don't know about the bank thing.

I ran into problems recently because there is no way to cross reference the card to valid acct. info. Many places online apparently have that feature built into the online software and won't let the order process.

I gave up on giftcards and just give cash.

It won't cost me any extra to give what I was giving in the first place, and EVERYWHERE takes cash.(if you buy online, then deposit)

I prefer the Visa cards over the AMEX. I buy these all the time for work. Probably 30-50 cards per month.

I get them from the bank and I believe they charge you a small fee, but sometimes they have a promo were they waive that fee if the amount you get on the card is over a certain amount.

As far as using them online. I think all you need to do is register your card (ie. name, address, phone) since it doesn't belong to anyone when you first get the card.

The draw backs of the card is that when it gets to a low balance. I found you have to play a little came with the card, different from other gift cards. Also, if you use at a restaurant, they add 20% of your bill to the card for verification, but you never actually get charged that amount. If you are using it at the gas pump, it tries to authorize for $50. If you don't have that much on there, just pump the gas and go pay the cashier for the exact amount.

I sent my daughter all over Europe last summer using a Visa gift card from my bank. I could recharge it up to $500.00 with no fee. She never had any problems and the bank even did the conversion for her. The only thing it didn't do was get her to understand the concept that 1 euro equals 2 american dollars (almost)

You can get them at the grocery store and Shoppers Drug Mart. As far as using it online I'm not sure. But like others have said some of them have some crazy charges. The charges are so unreal I don't think I would ever use one. Most stores now sell the store gift cards as well on the same rack. Just depends on where you want to shop online.
