My thoughts are pretty much the same on "cheap" guns (now). If someone intends to shoot a decent amount what is spent on ammo will overtake the price of the gun pretty quickly too. Within 3 months I spent more on ammo than I paid for my "cheap" .40. With my 1911 (inexpensive for a 1911, but not "cheap") it took around 6 months. That was also at WalMart ammo prices.
