there are several invasive species in the glades now, but the most popular is definitely the burms.
Nile Monitors started taking hold on the west coast, causing BIG TIME havoc. And now there is a population of 3 FOOT LONG Gambian pouch rats from Grassy Key to Marathon Key. they are scared shitless of these fuckers getting to the mainland.

3 foot long rats from africa. they are actually very intelligent and friendly with humans, so people started importing them for pets. now some jack leg let a few go in the keys and they started a population. a population that has been growing and working it's way north.
they are now outlawed. too late.

and the Nile Monitors are fucking scourge. Cess Pool mouth, no fear of humans, 3-6 feet long, dangerous claws, tail, teeth, and they like the swimming pools and canals.
Worst part is they eat EVERYTHING. they have been found with dog and cat bones in their guts, and they commonly eat endangered bird eggs, like flamingos, etc...

Shit...first I've heard of the Afrocks down here. But the article did say that "it was the largest ever caught in the 'Glades". So there could very well be a nice population out there.
So when you coming down, Tom?
