Default Linksys router slowing internet connection significantly.

Can anyone help me with this? I have a Linksys WRT54G router that's worked fine since I bought it (08) until recently. Today netflix on my xbox 360 wouldn't load movies, etc. so I did a speed test and got about .2-.5 megabytes per second through the router. When I connect my Macbook pro (10.4) directly to the modem it gets 12+mbps. Linksys wants to charge for tech support since I'm out of warranty, but I've updated the firmware and reset the modem, etc. Anyone ever had this happen before?

Did you pull power to both your modem and the router? Then plug in the modem let it do its thing... then plug in the router.

Also sometimes you can call your ISP provider and they will help you.

Make sure all the wires are properly connected and the router is firmly plugged into the wall. Is the router wireless? If so is it password protected? It also could be interference. Try switching the channel.

I had a similar problem where Internet download speeds were half what I should have been seeing, and directly connecting my laptop got the full speed. I installed DD-WRT firmware on mine and it's been much more stable and full speed since.

This may seem like an odd question, but is your router exposed to direct sunlight or in an area where it gets a ton of heat?

My last Linksys router died because of heat and showed the same symptoms you're describing.
