Happened to me once. They used an old email account to get personal information. They then used the personal information to get card numbers. What did they buy.... online dating/sex site....
My dad got it a couple months before he passed. He went to take a client out to lunch and.... oooops card got decined. He called all pissed off, and found out somebody spent almost 5 grand in 4 hours. Now these guys did it up real. They spent $2400 on televisions and electronics online, and another $2,000 some on itunes downloads. Thats a fuck ton of songs.....

The last time my card was compromised, they bought two 46" HD TVs.
What pisses me off about that sort of thing, is they won't tell you where the card was compromised. If they would, then I could avoid the situation in future. I've had my card compromised 3 times in the last 6 years. Fortunately I've never had to pay for the falsified purchases.

Happened to my wife's debit card last Fall. The crook(s) tried to buy a shitton of LED grow lights from a vendor in the UK. I caught the fraudlent charge the next morning (I keep a close eye on our accounts) and called up BOA and they credited the funds back to our account in 2 days and my wife got a new card/number a few days ater.

Ive been lucky so far but a few weeks ago Wachovia called me and told me that they were cancelling my current check card and issuing me a new one. Apparently, someone with a card number similar to mine was compromised so they did a preemptive change. Im fine with that but it took 2 weeks for me to get a replacement which is BS.
