My favorite quote from the pigs in that story, "We are not home invaders"

BTW, this happens a few times every single day nationwide, sometimes it makes the news, sometimes not.

I got woken up in the middle of the night a couple of months ago by guys shining flashlights in my windows in the back yard. Spooked the shit out of me, even after I saw they were cops.

Turns out some neighborhood watch person reported that I'd left my garage door open. Thanks, but try ringing the doorbell first next time. (The cops said they had to look for evidence of a break-in first.) Good way for me to get shot if I confront them with a weapon while they're in my backyard.

The safest thing to do is to disarm yourself and let the proper authorities handle it.

Why would you confront someone in your back yard with a weapon?

Because they're in the back yard in the middle of the night?

It's nice that they think all of those vehicles announce who they are but, if I see someone pointing a gun in my direction that's all I'm going to see, before my ass is on the floor and out of the line of fire.

I'm as paranoid as the next guy, but if someone was in my backyard in the middle of the night, I'd probably watch them out the window before running out there with a gun... maybe I'm just a pussy...

Oh, I did. Two guys dressed in dark clothes, shining flashlights into my windows at 4am. That's not a whole lot to go on.

I didn't have anything in the house I could have confronted anyone with anyway, but had my son been with me that night, I might have found something.
