Default speaking of wood floors and such

1) anybody have 12mm laminate? opinions?

2)ok, so Z and i are planning on putting "wood", but we have a diff of opinion.

as you walk in our house, teh foyer is 2 stories tall, and about 15' long ti the living room, it has stairs going up the right side and nice looking 18" tile in the entrance

to the left is the formal dining w/ carpet
to the right is the study w/ carpet
past the foyer wis the living room w/ carpet

we plan to replace all the carpet w/ "wood" downstairs and into the bedroom off of the master living room

i want to take out the tile in the foyer and put wood there, say for $1000

that way when you open the ft door, it's a sea of wood all the way to the back of the house vs wood/tile/wood

Z wants to keep the tiles, and just replace the carpet

stairs, OMG stairs only are 1/3 the price of the rest of house

opinions.

As long as the tile matches your theme, keep it... It's way more durable and is going to be in what is the most likely the highest traffic area of your house.

Keep the tile - just ditch the carpet.

If upstairs is carpet, simply recarpet the stairs to match upstairs.

I agree, if you are going to wood everything else, take the tile up.

The previous owner of our place partly "wooded" the main living area, leaving a tile entry of sorts along one side of the room. (We don't have a separate entry, since the front door opens right to the living/dining room.) Personally, I hate the tile/wood split. I just can't afford to correct the problem.

That said, if you've got an actual walled entryway, keeping it tile wouldn't look that bad, and will be way more durable like OSP said.

stairs and upstairs are already carpeted and matching , we bought the house new.

i just like the look of wood stairs, but at nearly $1300 for 12mm laminate, real wood would prob. be over $2k........yikes

yes we have a walled in entrance way, i may have to dig up the orig. house pics

i just think, wood/tile/wood looks cheaper vs WOOD!
