Default I need a new phone too

My iPhone 3GS is almost dead and I'm in the market for a new phone. My husband is thinking iPhone 4s. We can get them free and could put out existing aps on it easily. This is what I use my phone for. Pictures, video, reading, playing games like bejeweled, Facebook, maps, and finally making calls. Would a free iPhone 4s be sufficient or should I get a 5? Or the Samsung galaxy s3? Even thinking the Htc 1x. I like the large screen and could likely get it for $99. Oh and it takes pictures in video.. I like that. Any ideas?

Be better to stick with apple if you bought a ton of apps. 4s or 5 depends on how much you want LTE and if you want to pay a lot for additional charging cables.

I would go with the 4s. It takes very good photos, there's a ton of cases/accessories out there that will fit it (as Trip mentioned, the 5 has a new connector) and as you pointed out, it's much cheaper. It doesn't sound like you are a power user, needing LTE.

I'll have to admit, after using work-provided iPhones for a few years now, I've come to appreciate the iOS interface and Retina display over almost all of the other phones I've seen. I'm even learning to live with the iPad as a daily use device, thanks to a case with keyboard, thanks to the fact I can run my Windows desktops over it and use 4g/LTE when wi-fi isn't available. Pretty invaluable to my mobile work style.

Biggest difference with the 5 is LTE, lighter weight, and an additional row of icons because it's taller.
