Try this on for size.....
Hillbillies are a poor, simple folk, born in the hills (or other remote area), and most likely don't know they are hillbillies. They just live their lives like they know how to live 'em, and are pretty oblivious to other ways of life. The hillbilly's choice in music is simple folk music, and old school country. Don't be caught in the holler listening to gangsta rap, or you might not come back. Rednecks can be born of any geography or social class, and make a choice to be a redneck. They have enough exposure to other cultures to know that they don't want to be a loafer wearing pussy, and damn sure don't want to be caught listening to any pop music. Rednecks have a disdain for cultures or beliefs other than their own. Oddly enough, many rednecks are fond of rap music and heavy metal. Go figure. Coonasses are, well, just coonasses. I knew an old coonass well, but I can't even begin to describe him. Crazy cussin, drinking, loud coonass during the day at work. Silent, respectful and diligent Amish husband at night. No lie.

I disagree,I met him when he performed in Grand Rapids at the Reptile House,a little bar on Cherry and Division. He's white trash but he's never done hard labor to my knowledge (started out as a dj in Detroit) and I've always associated being a redneck with farmers and the like. I understand that a person can act like a redneck just like a white kid from the suburbs can act like brother from the hood but that don't make him one. Which is exactly the way Kid Rock portrayed himself until that stopped making money. Then he did more hard rock material and now he's leaning towards country. It's all marketing in my opinion.
