Not exactly cheap, but if anyone wants a good deal on the 65" Bravia I can get a good price on it.

Or any Sony for that matter. PM me if there's a specific model you're interested in for Christmas.

Okay. My gf and I stopped by best buy and saw some TV's we liked.

They had some Insignia's but there where 3 choices for 3 different prices. All 32" TVs

1 - 1080p, 60hz, 4500:1 contrast - $400
2 - 720p, 60hz, 6500:1 - $370
3 - 720p, 60hz, 4500:1 - $350

They were in boxes (kind of hidden too) and I don't recall seeing the lower priced one's on display so I can't compare them in person. But would contrast be more important or the 1080p? And honestly I'm not sure if we'll even get any HD channels when we get cable. But we'd probably get a Blu-ray player since Blockbuster seems to be converting everything to Bluray now (I just got a decent DVD collection).

Here is the 1080p but info is different online vs the box (no clue who to trust)

EDIT: Just saw this. Panasonic 720p 10,000:1 "dynamic" contrast ratio for $400

at 32" you would have to sit between 43"(THX standard) and 64"(SMPTE standard) away from the TV to notice a difference between 720P and 1080P, and that is if your vision is 20/20.

http://www.hdtvsolutions.com/HDTV_Viewing_Distance.htm

Get the one with the highest contrast ratio.

I dont go by contrast ratio cause every companies is different. One companies model 10,000:1 can be another companies 5,000:1.

Any contrast over I "think" 3,000 or something is a "fake" contrast. Some people like the really high contrast and some don't. It's what your eyes like.

Ideally you should see the picture on each TV. As has been pointed out the difference between 1080p and 720p on a 32" screen is negligible and the numbers for contrast ratio are usually bullshit. Some manufacturers even ratio between the brightest image the TV can show and the black when the TV is shut off.

Tig, you can't really compare cables to motorcycles, cars, or anything else. Cables are designed and built to a published standard. For digital cables as long as the cable is built to the minimum standard it will be able to carry the digital signal perfectly up to the max length rated by the standard. Some manufacturers go above the standard, and that is fine, but unless you need it for longer runs it will do nothing to improve the already perfect signal a cable built to the basic standard is able to deliver.

Rider, in your application having the right guage of wire is way more important than solid or stranded wire. Going to solid would not be worth it in my opinion. There are electrical differences, but I don't think any of them equal a real advantage for solid wire. It is a pain in the dick to work with since it is nowhere near as flexible as stranded wire. It is also not as durable.

Hold the fuck on. Tigger, did you really compare a good microbrewery beer to Milwaukee's Best? Yup...that's how it reads to me.

Man card, on the table, douchenozzle.
